Aya Matsuura joined by Mariya Takeuchi for her 10th anniversary album

Singer Aya Matsuura, 25, will release an album on Dec 21 to mark the 10th anniversary of her professional singing debut.

Veteran singer-songwriter Mariya Takeuchi, 56, is collaborating with Matsuura on the album, titled "Aya Matsuura 10th anniversary best." Takeuchi wrote a new song for the occasion, titled "Subject: Sayonara."

Matsuura, who auditioned for the all-girl pop group Morning Musume in 2000, became a long-time member of Hello! Project - a Mickey Mouse Club-esque collective of young Japanese pop artists. She “graduated” from the group in March 2009. Like many Japanese pop idols, she has worked in a multitude of assignments ranging from solo work and collaborations with other idols, to hosting a radio talk show and acting.

Since 2006, Matsuura has suffered from mandibular joint disorder, a condition that often makes it painful for her to sing. She took a three-year hiatus from touring and has slowly started making a comeback.

She said the anniversary album is a special Christmas present to her fans.

No need to hurry to come back, take your time, recover, nobody is missing your music.

mandibular joint disorder....................that makes it hard to open the mouth wide. Can imagine she can't howl well and that does affect her singing.

Please tell me that you had trouble keeping a straight face while you were typing that line.

Say what you want because she's a hello-pro "idol" but she has talent. She always sang live at her concerts, has a clear, high voice, and she has done jazz tunes, acoustic, even a cappella (in a group). And she doesn't just have her jaw problem, she has a few other health problems keeping her from performing. I wish her the best.
