Pathetic censorship.

If their society and all its values are so fragile that a children's film is in danger of bringing it all crashing down, it doesn’t say much for them. Ridiculous, children are well able to differentiate between fantasy and reality, apparently it is only Chinese censors who can’t.

It brings their whole censorship apparatus in to ridicule…….

may be that is the best thing that can happen.

Never seen it, but it sounds like a nicer ending.

It's sad that the studio would allow the actual plot/ending to be altered. I hope more movies follow the example of Top Gun: Maverick and refuse Chinese censorship. Artistic integrity should trump profit always.

What's small, yellow, loves bananas and promotes the rule of law?

I didn't know Xi Jinping liked bananas. Probably not ones from Taiwan .

No comment from Universal since they didn't have the backbone to stop Red China from copyright infringement. Lame.

At least once in awhile China gets something right. Here it’s the promotion of family and redemption.

Good on them.

Why is there one standard for China??

What a shame that the world bends to their wishes because of money.

Make the movie, they can censor it, and then in 20 movies they will only have a small collection of crap edited flicks and thats all they deserve.

Hollywood is entirely about profits. However, between Chinese theater attendance being down and the limited number of films allowed in, appeasing China only makes sense for a small number of films.

Ironically, pre-pandemic, Top Gun was appearing China by removing the Taiwanese flag from the iconic flight jacket in the trailer. They put it back in when it was clear that a potential Chinese thesaterical release wasn't going to make much money.

Why can't a film, be simply played in it's original format everywhere, or simply not at all, rather than being bacterized by so called "regulators". Here in Japan, the same happens too.
