So, Firearm safety is someone ELSE’s Job; Not Mine.

Sets are already supposed to have an armorer who monitors weapon safety, what would be the point of having a police officer doing the same thing?

17 ( +18 / -1 )

This situation is so sad. I still do not understand how this could happen. Why use a real gun?

0 ( +6 / -6 )

As rainyday said. Why not call the army, throw in a Swat team as well?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

I think that one thing almost everyone can agree on is that the less Alex talks the better.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

No need for a police officer on set, Mr Baldwin. Hard as it may be for you to understand, the police have other more pressing duties than being props for your blame shifting.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Sir, you are closing the barn door as the horse disappears over the horizon.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Message to Alex Baldwin;

Stop hiring non-union scabs to your production to save a few bucks.

Get rid of all working firearms on the set and use CGI to fake gun shots.

Take responsibility for your action. Check any gun given to you to see if it is loaded.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

How about this instead- ALL personnel, staff and talent, who will ever handle a weapon on set must take a mandatory safety training course. Movie sets already have armorers, who are supposed to be responsible for the weapons, so having police around won't help. Cops don't have much in the way of specialized training in weapon safety anyway.

“I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone,” is what Baldwin tweeted after a police officer shot a violent crim that punched him and took his sidearm, a few years ago.

Well, now he knows - and it must be one the most despairing feelings we could imagine.

A good business for ex police officers - if they can work with folk who look down on them, until they need them. Maybe charge them a premium as they can afford it.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

What an idiot. That's why a production team hires a qualified armorer. Mr, Baldwin, producer, cannot pass the responsibility for safety.

What's next? Should police help him cross the street and help him carry scissors around too?

/s

Geeze. I can't say what I'm really thinking here.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Firearm safety begins with YOU.

NO ONE else.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

now recommending a police officer on the set is... well, you know. Does he expect the police officer to be the "fall guy" when an accident occurs on set? No, the person who activates the trigger is the one who is responsible for the results. Stop blame-shifting /deflection.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

As much as Baldwin tries to deflect his responsibility for having killed the woman, there is no escaping the fact that the person who activates the trigger of the gun is responsible for the results.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Because it is so much more important to have safety on film sets than it is to have it on the streets of US cities. What a privileged idiot Baldwin is.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Wow! Talk about deflection. Like this is somehow an endemic issue on sets.

@Vreth Since this story broke I've noticed so many likeminded people writing harsh comments about this guy. I didn't get why people hated him so much. Looked him up and found out he impersonated Trump on Saturday night live*

Uh, no. He shot and killed a person on the set of his latest movie. It was a result of criminal negligence on his part and a staggering display of carelessness. Moreover, guns had been going off and firing live ammunition on the set in the days previously and Baldwin, far from being concerned as an actor let alone producer, not only didn’t act to resolve a clearly extremely dangerous situation for everyone involved in the film, he also blithely accepted a gun handed to him, didn’t bother to give it even a cursory check for safety, pointed it at someone and shot her dead.

It was a completely needless death.

You don’t say. Poor Mr Baldwin. All he did was kill someone.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Just ban real firearms from film sets altogether. With a the special effects stuff they can do tase days, there is absolutely no need for them.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Here's a nutty idea... how about opening the cylinder or the chamber (as appropriate) and looking inside?

I know, I'm a dreamer.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I’m sure Police have better things to do with the days then work on a movie set monitoring firearm safety. That is the job of the set armourer.

I said it previously, just give the actors as well a soldier’s five in the basic use of firearms and how to check their condition.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Let's face it. As long as its the norm for your average American Joe to be packing firearms and ammo, these kind of things are going to happen.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Baldwin stuffed up. He was careless with what he knew to be a real firearm, which HE failed to confirm was actually unloaded. No amount of deflection will reduce his culpability.

No, Vreth, the reason there are so many "likeminded" people commenting is because Baldwin has been, and continues to be, a boorish, abusive, and loudmouth entitled hack. He is better known for his many abusive comments and actions than for any parts he has ever played. His profanity-laden rant against his daughter is legendary and he has had numerous run-ins with photographers, reporters, and even ordinary, everyday people.

No, Vreth, Baldwin has been hated long before he started parodying Trump on SND (that's Saturday night DEAD, if you can't figure it out.)

When I read up on this, it seems that after Brandon Lee was shot, there was a tightening up on procedures etc, the armorer was/is responsable for loading unloading checking of the guns, this is an industry standard, so, "Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer, has said she had "no idea" where the live round came from" well if you did your job properly, there should be no live rounds in that or any gun, which begs the question, why was there a live round in that gun? 1: the armour failed to do his job, 2: some person placed a live round into the gun with the intention of harming someone, 3; why was the guns left unattended so this could happen? 4: if they were left unattended they should have been checked again, before handing the gun over to the actor. in the industry guidelines it states that if an actor is unfamiliar with a gun or weapon the armour must instruct that person in how to use said item. this way the person can be checked by them selfs to make sure the gun or weapon is safe. 5: did this happen on the rust set? it would seem that the armour has been sloppy in his or her procedures with a degree of negligence on behalf of the actor.

It’s telling that Baldwin is pointing the finger elsewhere for his failure to handle a real gun responsibly. This wasn’t a prop - it was decided to have working guns on set and people were firing them for target practice. Everyone who believes in civil rights will tell you that misuse of those rights has consequences. Alec Baldwin committed a crime through negligence.

Its sad to see the Left politicize this case and make excuses for the shooting death of an innocent person due to their support for Baldwins politics. The wagons are being circled around their own over what would otherwise be condemnation for someone else less important to their cause.

Nothing to do with Trump or imitations. I found those funny.

Liking/Hating Trump doesn't mean we think a boob should get a pass for saying dumb things - just pick the boob - Trump or Baldwin - doesn't matter.

He was the shooter but somebody gave him a loaded gun. Guns on movie sets are strictly controlled and only handled and stored by so-called gun experts. Perhaps he should have checked the gun for live rounds but why should he? The gun was loaded by an expert before it was given to him. Bruce Lee was killed in similar circumstances.

Lindsay,

Brandon Lee was killed in similar circumstances.

That was a lil different, it was caused by a fragment of and old round. This situation is kind of a mess. the set was trying too hard to cut cash and skipped safety steps.
