Whether one thinks highly of her interviews or not (they are a mixed bag),
She was the first female co-host of a morning news program, and the first female co-host of a nightly news program (both ruined by men who couldn't stand to share the spotlight with a woman).
Her interview format revolutionized the political-celebrity interview format.
20-20, which she co-created, became the format for tv news magazines (along with 60 minutes).
I don't like The View, but 25 years after its creation at her insistence, it rolls right along.
And she broke the glass ceiling for virtually every female tv journalist regardless of political leaning that works today.
And she did it without complaining and with grace.
So yeah, she's "somebody we should know about."

The legacy media is literally dying.

A long distinguished career.

A very big name in news for decades. RIP.
To be honest I had forgotten about her. Although I remeber Gilda Radner's character.

Oh wow can’t believe some are questioning her career and its influence in history…Let alone oblivious of her in general…
that’s a sour taste….

Sorry, never heard of her.

RIP
20/20 was a steeple in many households every Friday evening at 10pm following the great sitcoms on ABC(TGIF) from 8-10.

Barbara Walters will long be remembered for her work…her legacy.
Sadly, though, she will also be remembered for “The View”. Not for when she was still involved but for the dumpster fire the program has become.

That's ok, millions do though.

No offense taken. I, too , was actually not a regular viewer of her shows. What I meant was that though I wasn’t a regular “viewer,” I knew of her history of career and interviews.
