Beat Takeshi announces newest action flick

Director Takeshi Kitano this week completed filming of his latest action movie, "Outrage." The film will star Kitano as himself in the role of Beat Takeshi, together with Tomokazu Miura, Kippei Shiina, Ryo Kase and many other well-known actors.

This will be Kitano's first action movie since his 2003 film "Zatoichi," and the first time Miura, Shiina and other members of the all-star cast have joined a Kitano production. The director praised their performance, saying, "The acting skills of professionals at this level is really amazing."

"This is a really feel-good movie," explained Shiina. "It's like having an expert masseuse give you a really long foot massage." The film will be released in theaters June 12.

"The film will star Kitano as himself..."

That's as much acting as he is capable of. I will not be seeing this rubbish.

Zatoichi was great, a very original way to make a chanbara movie. I look forward to his next movie.

Comparing a film to a foot-massage. Only in Japan.

Another J-flick I don't have to waste my money on.

And another top award for directing! Not because of his directing skills, but for his popularity.

Beat is one of those ppl who seems to have good understanding of his medium and works hard, not at all an idiot, but yet somehow never makes movies that I actually Like very much. I will probably see it and give it 2 or 3 stars out of 5.

It's a reality-style show, with "Kitano as himself in the role of Beat Takeshi"...?

He does not do too much for me. Nothing special on tv either except he can be very cruel physically to people.

more movies from a guy who thinks he is halarious by merely coming out on stage each time in a poorly made costume that attempts to make him look like another star? yeah, ill pass.

No one has profited more from clueless Japanophiles than this guy. As far as I can tell he's made the same rip-off of "Resevoir Dogs" (with him blasting away with his shiney Colt.45 in a bloody black suit and sunglasses) for the past 10 years.

I wholeheartedly agree with hosefella. Nobody in Japan is game to tell Takeshi the truth - that his movies suck and he has no talent. He is surrounded by a bunch of yes men and a media that propagates the myth of "Sekai no Kitano Takeshi"

This "Beat" guy is basically mainly known for his yawn-inspiring regular TV appearances, giving "insights" into politics and the big issues of the day... he never fails to make me yawn incessantly!

Oh no wait....don't tell me.....guns, shooting, gangsters, oooohhhh the suspense is killing me. what a croc

youre too short for a double breasted suit dude.

This bloke is one of the few TV presenters I've seen who thinks you can chair a debate dressed up as a carousel, banging a squeaky hammer. I can live without his directorial efforts. The preposterous dwarf.

I would rather be a clueless Japanophile than clueless like you. In the last ten years Kitano has made six movies. Of those six only "Brother" and "Zatoichi" could be called genre movies and "Brother" is the only gangster film. The other four movies are pretty bad (Dolls is okay), but they are certainly not genre movies.

If you had written that all he can make is genre movies then you might have been onto something, but you did not, because you are ignorant.

I am wondering if anybody criticising Kitano has actually watched any of his films, particularly the ones from the 90's? Because they are quite extraordinary. I sincerely hope that Outrage is a return to his films of the 90's.

Oh yeah Reservoir Dogs is a film that ripped off its entire ending from a Hong Kong movie called "City on Fire", but I am sure horsefella knew that too.

Uh-oh, the Japanophiles have been hurt! Sounds like a certain someone just Googled "Beat Takashi" and actually came up with some titles. Here are some more; "Crap", "Utter Filth", "S#$%" and "Contrived" Hey Beowolf, if a crap movie is a ripoff of another ripoff, what does that say?

again yaks movie? i am in

I did not need to google anything, because I have actually watched his films, unlike you. I am also not a Japanophile, I am a cinephile and as a cinephile I can tell pretty quickly when somebody has no idea about cinema.

Kitano directing "Brother" (I am almost certain that is the movie you are referring to, though I am sure you do not know it), certainly tips its gangster hat to Tarantino. But that is expected, because it is set in LA and it is also a nice way to return the favour to somebody who references Asian cinema in his (Tarantino) films.

Brother, Reservoir Dogs and City on Fire are all pretty good movies in my opinion, but what so I know I actually watch the movies I talk about.

hoserfella you have no idea what you are talking about.

The guy has a quick brain, but he seems to be a bit of a sadist. Imagine some island in the Pacific and Takeshi as an army officer. If I had come up against him in WWII he would probably have shown me very little mercy, I sense.

A certain Japanophile likes his movies contrived and by-the-numbers. Its OK as long as you can admit it, I say... Let me guess, you voted for Whoppi Goldberg in "Ghost" as well?

Imagine some island in the Pacific and Takeshi as an army officer.

As in Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence?

Consider the best Japanese director of all time and then consider how Takeshi stands up against him.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

beowolf, If Kitano is the Michael Bay of Japanese Directors, what does that make his fans?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

watch Kikujiro no Natsu or Dolls and then come back when you have a clue what you are talking about. I reckon you're more of a Top Gun type of guy though eh

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Top Gun; stylized crap for the masses with "Kick-ass" action scenes. Sounds like a Kitano movie to me.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Kick-ass" action scenes

you have never seen a Kitano film have you

Yup. had the misfortune to have my GF sit me down thru Zotoichi. He simply traded in his cool guns for a sword. More crap eaten up by Japanophiles..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

cinephile cinephile cinephile. if you don't know about something it's best not to talk about it for risk of looking like you don't know anything

Do his movies make people fall asleep as much as his TV appearances? I think Beat (whats with the name by the way) is simply famous for being on TV. And advertising yogurt.

BurakuminDes

You fall asleep at Takeshi TV appearance...?

Probably because you dont understand a word !

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Beat Takeshi's performance in Nagisa Oshima's 1999 film Taboo (Gohatto), where he played Captain Hijikata Toshizo showed much greater depth in his acting skill, I believe. An intriguing and provacative film.

I can understand enough of this yogurt-spruiker's gibbering to know it is not worth listening to, my friend! Even Becky-chan, the "Kano Sisters" and the SMAP guys are more serious and credible panel commentators than old man "Beat"!LOL.

Look, I'll try one of his movies just to see what the Japanophile/Cinephile/Otaku buzz is all about...

Thats a comment many in JT will never forgot, your opinion is so hilarious...that i cant even answer back.

I cant go to that level !
