Beat Takeshi to make appearance in pilot of Shingo Katori’s new TV series

TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) announced Monday that Beat Takeshi, 62, will be the guest star on the pilot of the TV show “Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen-mae Hashutsujo,” or literally, “This Is the Police Station in Front of Kameari Park in Katsushika Ward,” starring Shingo Katori, 32, of the pop group SMAP.

The TV show is based on a popular manga by Osamu Akimoto. Takeshi will play the role of a mysterious man “Kitano,” who barges into the police station where Kankichi Ryotsu, the protagonist played by Katori, works, and acts as if he owns the place. The pilot will air on Saturday Aug 1 from 7:56 p.m.

I LOVE Beat Takeshi!

Not high drama, but it could be amusing. I remember another Katori drama, "the flowershop that doesn't have roses." Katori played an emotionless man, so I wonder how well he will play an overly emotional J-Cop.

Don't expect anything even vaguely 24 like, but I would love to see an episode in which he has to arrest his fellow SMAP member,Kusanagi Tsuyoshi for walking around naked in the park...

I agree with TeruSensei. I'll definitely watch the pilot.

Let me see, he is going to hit the cop over the head with a plastic hammer?

I just watched Brother staring, written, and directed by mr. beat. I was a little dispointed. but he was a pretty cool charicter nonetheless. I like him a lot, but I think he is a little overrated, but compared to other J-talento, he is only 1 of about 3 that are worth paying any attention to whatsoever.

So.. the significance is that the star of "Zatoichi" (2003) is guesting on the show featuring the star of "Zatoichi: The Last" (2010). Just thought I'd mention that, since it's undoubtedly the WHOLE FREAKING POINT of the Beat Takeshi appearance on the TV show.

"Pilot" episode? As in a production run has not been ordered yet? I've never heard of a Japanese drama series having a "pilot" episode. Yet more disasterous translating on JT?

I believe in Japanese, pilot could signify the 'initial' episode. Note that in many TV series, the pilot episode just so happens to be the 1st episode, as well. (not always, due to the pilots low budget) But often its better than remaking the 1st episode all over again.

Will the 'pilot' decide whether Nakagawa will be gay or not? whether Terada would be cast at all?

Will Tsuyoshi Kusanagi make a guest appearance as drunk, perverted nudist in Kameari park, then get arrested by Shingo and escorted to the station? That would be a nice comedy touch. Otherwise, I expect with "Beat" Takeshi and Shingo it's gonna all be slapstick, pie-in-the-face sort of stuff.
