Religion, chants, ragas and mantras in music are as old as music itself. Some music is a direct response to spiritual awakenings, some is less direct, some samples chants and some is from the heart, some is about struggle, hope and redemption like gospel music and spirituals.
More recently, we've had Enigma, Bob Marley, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Van Morrisson, Bob Dylan and many more.
(I know the above list is not so contemporary but these days, I have no idea whether Lizzo, Janelle Monae, Tame Impala or Fontaines DC are religious or not. Not that it matters in the slightest.)
