This list is a bit more interesting, but just a depressing.

Hit the nail on the head.
Better album and definitely in my humble opinion a better band.

Biggest selling album is hardly a metric for quality. The Eagles album is a greatest hits compilation, Thriller is what it is primarily because of Quincy Jones and neither one of them hold a candle to several dozen albums I could name from more than one genre.
Chop Chop
Michael T Burns. I agreed with you. You're correct. The Thriller is best selling original Album and the Eagles' "The Greatest Hits" album was collection best songs from several albums. The two albums cannot put under the same category.
Stram5
I was surprised to see Hootie & the Blowfish On There
Do the hustle
I think uoul you’ll find that it is Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.

Thom Yorke and Frank Zappa are/were talented men, but let’s be honest, both were prone to “pretentious and self-indulgent” recordings.
Give me Desperado over that.
Netgrump
The Trumpists and Brexiteers going nostalgic on Desperado, sounds like desperate :)
Toasted Heretic
It just means someone who's doing jazz at the moment ;-)
How about Radiohead or Zappa? Both have flirted with jazz over the years...
Jimizo
Thanks, honestly, but just reading the words ‘contemporary jazz’ brings me out in a rash.

I'm not surprised at all.
Super popular group in the US from the early 70's.
The Eagles and Joe Walsh always put on a show.

It's just album sales, man. I mean, I don't have a problem with The Eagles, I own one of the LPs and all.
As for MJ, I think his peak was Off the Wall and Thriller. After that it was a slow descent into mediocrity, trash and that other... stuff.
@Jimizo, I wasn't into jazz when I was younger. Saw it as pretentious and self-indulgent. Then a friend introduced me to some choice artists and everything changed.
Check out contemporary jazz artist Kamasi Washington or even old school Lonnie Liston Smith.

Which Jeff Lebowski?

The Eagles weren't even the best band of the 70s - far from it - so how is this possible?
FizzBit
Desperado is just so....bloody awful.
LOL
I like it.
Have you tried Linda Ronstadt's version? came out just before the Eagles release in 73. I prefer it over the Eagles.

They always were a bit bland and packaged I thought, and I like Trump. I had tickets to one of their concerts back when they in their prime, and wasn't interested enough to go. But I can see the appeal in their music, like Madonna's. Michael Jackson had his share of bland stuff, too, but there was always something a little edgier and special about much of his music that inspired lots of other artists.

Different courses for different horses, as they say.
And, it is possible to like both for different reasons.
Greatest Hits albums are really a different animal. As @Michael T Burns highlights.
What I find interesting is that in the last 12 years, the Eagles Greatest Hits album has sold an astonishing 9 million additional copies. From 2006 to 2018!
Whatever one thinks of the album and the songs, it is pretty amazing that an album from the '70s sold an additional 9 million copies since 2006!!
plasticmonkey
Come on. Why don't you come to your senses?
Jimizo
I have thought about it. I can’t stand music snobs ( there was a swarm of them here the other day stinging Madonna ) and so I don’t think it’s snobbery. I remember having an argument with a music snob about the excellence of the decidedly uncool ABBA as pop songwriters. He was the kind of person who thought “Hey, Jimmy is a closet ABBA fan!” was a way to embarrass me. You know the type...
I just can’t find anything to like about Desperado. Desperado is just so....bloody awful.
kohakuebisu
I'm with the Dude on this. Its nsfw, but the scene is on Youtube.
Jimizo
I’m pretty open to any kind of music apart from jazz but Desperado is one of the few songs I’m physically allergic to. Others include the theme from Titanic, American Pie, Bohemian Rhapsody and the theme from Footloose.
I can’t fully explain why. Just something about those songs.
Michael T Burns
Incorrect. It may have surpased Thriller in the United States, but
1) Thriller is still the #1 selling album WORLDWIDE
and
2) The Eagle’s album is not evenan album. It’s a greatest hits collection, picking and choosing from several albums, as “Greatest Hits” always do.
If #2 seems too much like splitting hairs to you, refer back to #1.

RIP Glenn Frey welcome Deacon Frey and Vince Gill the group sounds as great as ever.
Alfie Noakes
Music for people who don't like music.
