Becky promises to keep helping Tohoku

23 Comments

Popular "talent" Becky led a group of artists from major entertainment agency Sun Music at a charity event in Tokyo's Sunshine City this week to raise money for the Tohoku reconstruction effort.

This is the second event by the Sun Music group since May. Joining Becky were Cunning Takeyama, 40, Mayumi Ono, 30, and Hanako Takigawa, 23, who all helped collect donations from fans.

Charity project leader Becky said that eight months have passed since the disaster, and that she is afraid that the plight of survivors will drop out of the media, so she intends to continue charity activities.

This is very nice of her but the article fails to tell us how exactly she will do that. By giving that money to yet another organization, it will disappear forever. I laud companies like MontBell who actually go there and build houses for evacuees. I hope that Becky will go there too and do it herself.

Becky promises to keep helping Tohoku

because her management company told her to do so. Anything to help with her own PR... Right Becky, go to this music event and have some fun. We will work on PR plan to get more exposure by linking your appearance to helping Tohoku. Right off you go girl..

Actually Becky has done quite a lot to help Tohoku since May, attending many fund-raising events. I remember one event in Yoyogi Park, she helped raise money to look after displaced pets in the disaster zone.

tokoykawasaki, as usual, you are wrong. It's not a PR stunt. I've met Becky on many occasions and she is a warm-hearted individual. Her offer to help Tohoku, like Sachiko Kobayashi and other artists, is quite genuine, I can assure you.

Give her the benefit of the doubt and do not be so cynical.

Foxie is correct all these events just to collect $$$ then dump it in some box or the red cross is somewhat lame, how about some goals, to re-build a school, bridge, fix up a park for kids, etc etc.

Its too easy to just drop Y20,000 in a box at a station or elsewhere. While I think this is good, it wud be MUCH better to take that next step, like the woman who has been delivering rice for example, much better imo.

I do believe that Becky has a good heart and that she is doing good for all of Japan and also for Tohoku.

@tokyokawasaki

and what are YOU doing to help? PR stunt or not, she's doing a lot more than just sitting in front of a computer. Even if only 10% of the proceeds will reach the survivors, it's much more than what most people are doing.

and no, i'm not a fan of becky.

@tokyokawasaki.....

i don`t care how she do it,...at least she is helping the survivors. What can YOU do tokyokawasaki??

ME? I'm donating a lot to favorite specific organizations, such as the ones that help rescue abandoned animals in the Fukushima nuke zone. YOU? Go Becky!

Cunning Takeyama, 40

I really hope this name is a mis-print - because, if not - it is the saddest and stupidest name. EVER. Good on Becky co. for helping out- if they put some smiles on some folk up this way, theyve done well.

@Des - agreed. I wonder if they call him Cun for short. And do they say it with a glottal stop?

I like how "talent" is written with quotation marks.

Is Becky a Japanese verson of Lady Ga-Ga? Does she sing?

Let's not hate on Becky for any real or perceived motives for her helping disaster victims. How MANY are doing nothing at all? Do the victims care what her motives are? If I was cold and hungry, I wouldn't care why you were giving me food and shelter.

Sensei, I am curious what she is. I do not live in Japan.What's a talento?

A "talento" or "talent" In English can be anyone from a singer, model, TV personality, movie star, etc. You can see Becky on TV programs any day of the week here. She is very popular. I'm not sure if she has any albums out, but she probably does. She's got a cute, girl you love to take home to Mom, look and personality. Type "Japan Becky" into your YouTube search engine.

I'm so happy to learn that the catastrophes against which the people of Tohoku battle every day can be won by someone appearing on TV, finding things cute and being able to speak he own language in a vaguely babyish way. Who needs scientists, teams of engineers and massive investment? Go, Becky! Hie thee hence to a studio and gigglingly clap in that magic way which miraculously spirits away the woes of Tohoku.

How blessed we are that your ability to count up to at least eight will heal those wounds - with no thought whatsoever to your own career.
