becomes first Black woman to top country songs chart

Finally they allowed to do that? Not bad for a progress after 60 years MLK dream speech.

Yep, Bought and paid for because Beyonce is out of ideas.

I took a listen. Its pop music sung with a twang. Doesnt matter - thats “country music” now. Its nothing I’d give a second listen, or thought, to. The video that came with it - a half naked Beyonce posing “provocatively” (bored eye roll) I found dissapointing. Is this going to be the trend now in “country music”, just as with pop and rock post Madonna? Female singers obligated to prance around in underwear looking “sexy”?

All under the label of “female empowerment”.

Yet at the same time Charlie Pride was the first Black country artist.

Those charts are all constructed anyway. They ceased what relevancy they had in 1990.

Recently there was a Black woman who had a real country song, it was a hit but 'country' radio pulled it becauuuuuuusssseeeeeee......................

and she gave a foul reply to those critics too!

Oh I guess it's OK now because Bey is sooooooooooooo famous and successful, isn't it?

All under the label of “female empowerment”.

And they like her 'nice' gams too. Nice legs can go a loooooonnnnggggg way, can't they?

Uhh, she is still African American, the shade of color has nothing to do with it, ask former Congressman Herald Ford Jr.

the banjo notably grew out of instruments brought to the United States by enslaved people in the 1600s and 1700s

There was no United States in the 1600s, or most of the 1700s.

I can't wait until the next Country Music Awards when Kanye interrupts the acceptance speech of the best female vocalist: He'll climb the stage with his Stetson on backwards, grab the mike and declare, "Now hold your horses, y'all. I'm fixin' to let you finish, but Beyoncé, she's got one of the best country voices of all time. Ain't nobody singin' like her in these parts, I tell ya what."

Well I searched and saw the music video online and it’s not bad.

Hysterical.

I find you are very fond of shooting down artists you don’t like or are told not to like,

You never mention artists you like or respect. I think I asked in the past but you seem coy about this.

Who do you rate?

Seeing as liking a given music is subjective, the only objective qualification to whether music is good or not, is whether lots of people like it. If lots of people like it, it is qualified as good, if lots of people don't, it's qualified as bad.

Any individual opinions have zero weight, because it's one person's subjective opinion, not objective. If you have interest in that person, than their subjective opinion may matter to you, but insofar as objectively determining whether music is good or not, each individual opinion is entirely meaningless.

I personally don't like the song, or country music either. But clearly Beyonce is making good country music, because objectively it's been very, very popular, which again, is the only metric that can objectively determine whether music is good or not.

Or rather, not good.

She grew up listening and singing country music. There are a lot of black people I know who like it. And besides Charley Pride, Darius Rucker  of Hootie and the Blowfish had a #1 hit with Wagon Wheel, so it's no mystery why Beyonce chose to record this.

And, as an aside, Dolly Parton ( for no reason she could fathom) was elected to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. So she cut a rock n' roll album, which was quite good. Music crossovers have been going on since the 1950s at least.

There is much more to a 'race' than skin coloration. It also has to do with shapes of face features (eyes, nose, lips) as well as shapes of hair follicles. That's what anthropologists say, and that's also what hair stylists and beauticians are trained to know for their work.

And even in each of the three main 'main race' groups, there is much diversity. And Beyonce is an African American or Black American. But if you go far enough you'll find somebody from another 'race' in your family ancestry bloodline. Nobody is 100% 'one race'. I'm not.

100 years ago there were Black American country artists, just like there were and are White American jazz artists. Charlie Pride broke the 'color' rule for country music. As for jazz - yeah, Black Americans invented it but it's everywhere now and performed by all kinds of people.

And besides, I've seen on Amazon a CD of 'Tina Turner Sings Country'. If she can do it, then why not Beyonce?

“That Don’t Impress Me Much” is a toilet flush.

I was at a Mickey Dees today enjoying a Filet O' Fish meal and a Shamrock Shake (tis the season). The PA was playing country and pseudo-country pop slop, incl. that Shania Twain song. A dance beat, Shania's videogenic good looks and sexiness combined with the most pedestrian lyrics in the lexicon. She can't sing or write worth a damn. This was amongst the most idiotic puke I've heard in ages, and the late 90s sure had a lot of musical rubbish. Totally boneheaded and banal.

Can Beyonce put out something this stupid and moronic in the name of 'country' music, or will she make better stuff? I guess we're going to find out.

A lot of artists are crossing over into other genre. Shania Twain did a pop song not long ago. Unhealthy. Good vibes.

John Lennon completely disagreed with this thinking and so do I.

Ain’t country music what she does and colour shouldn’t matter.

I understand, but she is African American, that is what she claims, that is what her family is, and that is how her husband and people generally see her. Halle Berry is half-White as is Obama, but the world and they themselves identify as Black or African-American, even Berry's mother said on a TV interview one time that she sees her daughter as black.

Well, of course not, there are very few people that are pure anything except for the Bush people in South Africa, they are essentially one of the first people and everyone else has evolved from them, you can trace every human DNA to these people.
