Sometimes it can be personal aminosities too. In one Olympics during the 00s I remember this American swimmer who was caught spewing Pepsi in the Dutch woman's lane as an act of contempt and vendetta. this was just the tryouts. the Dutch swimmer made it into the top 3 meaning that she would compete in the next tryout, possibly for a medal. The American swimmer made 5th place and was eliminated.
As an American I root for the American atheletes, unless it's some schmuck like this one, or Hope Solo in the recent Games in Rio.
