When Rock came out in 1985, his last TV role had been Dynasty. There was one scene when he kissed Linda Evans:

″On the day the kiss with Linda Evans was shot, Rock used every gargle, mouthwash and spray he could get his hands on. He told Mark, ‘the kiss is over with. Thank God.’ He said it was one of the worst days in his life.″

The night the ″Dynasty″ episode was shown, (friend George) Nader watched it and made a tape, according to the excerpt.

″I could see where Rock kept his lips closed and hit Linda on the side of the cheek for a brief, chaste kiss,″ said Nader. ″He did not open his mouth, no saliva was exchanged.″ (https://www.apnews.com/f28133ea544142bf9a3a015a7509b261)

When he did come out the entire cast of Dynasty queued up for AIDS tests. Huge news then.

I recall, because I was in Tokushima next to Kochi, where apparently the first AIDS case in Japan occurred (apparently a girl who had a Greek husband who had had AIDS). Arriving in Yokohama in 1986 I was widely accused of having AIDS because I had been in Shikoku!

Attitudes have changed since then, but many people's naivety about things certainly hasn't.
