Bill Nighy is always very entertaining.

Much truth in Ishiguro's stiff upper lip thesis, but it probably goes back much further to the habit of keeping your head down during the waves of invasions from the continent that molded the English character. The Japanese upper lip is arguably stiffer, but when their lower lip trembles, a volcanic explosion can be expected.

Some would say the stiff upper lip is a sign of emotional strength.....It's not like that anymore though.
