Cameron to release three 'Avatar' sequels

$2.8Bn for the first one guaranteed a couple of sequels. There must a formula showing the minimal amounts made on blockbuster sequels.

Avatar made $2.7 billion box office - what d'ya guys expect? Of course they'll make more, like any successful franchise. Even Alien and Terminator had sequels.

Hollywood simply cannot think of any original ideas anymore can they. Either remakes or sequels. 3 more Avatar movies? Yawn.

So let me get this straight: you won't watch remakes or sequels, and yet you have zero interest in the original movie even though it's not a remake nor a sequel? So even if they come up with a new non-remake non-sequel movie, you won't watch it anyway? What it all boils down to, is that Hollywood cannot think of any original ideas that you like, because even if they come up with a new original idea but you don't like it, you won't watch it regardless.

I also Agree with Damian.. I don't like James Cameron that much, but he's a moneymaker in the industry film... that with Titanic and Avatar, so for him to make sequels that's disappointing, in such a short space, I hope the writing is up to standard...

And Aliens was also a sequel of the original from Ridley Scott, the Terminator 1 & 2 are made by J. Cameron.

Will the next one be in 4D? Wonder what to tell next, the co-operation could just bombard the living tree from space, short film :P

I know what the article is about. I posted on it to express my disappointment that instead of creating new movie concepts Cameron has decided to make Avatar sequels.

It is obvious from the headline that the article is about Avatar, not James Cameron's older movies like Aliens and the Abyss.

Slumdog,I read the article because I like James Cameron's older movies like Aliens,The Abyss etc. Avatar never really hit home for me.

Cameron will make enough money to buy his own planet. Which is fortunate for him as three Avatar sequels will result in this planet being sucked into a boredom vortex.

This is a pretty good strategy, for many reasons. It's the same strategy that Jackson did with LOTR.

1) it will cut down on production costs

2) actors won't noticeably age (assuming they'll be same characters across)

3) Releasing them a year apart will build in attendance

4) watching any ONE of the movies knowing that there are already sequels (or prequels) will ensure a three-for-one in future DVD's, viewings, etc.

Say what you want about Cameron and his movies, but he knows how to make EPIC movies that make a frikkin TON of money.

He also knows how to "raise the bar," if you catch my drift.

Cameron might find it difficult getting Zoe for these sequels, she's going to be busy playing Uhura on the upcoming Star Trek sequels! She has filled in admirably for Nichelle Nichols.

Wow, three sequels to a movie I totally forgot about is what I really wanted, said no one ever.

3D ... Bah!

Dunno, Speed. Could be great. Lots of potential.

Three at the same time. I'm highly skeptical they'll do well. I don't even think one sequel will be that successful.

The novelty of the 3D experience of the first one helped pull in many of its viewers.
