She should be so lucky that 80 million people are exposed to her music.
She should keep her political views to herself.
wallace
Copyrights exist to protect the works against misuse by the likes of Trump.
dagon
Trump's DJ skills were praised in some speeches at the RNC.
This would call that into serious doubt.
Strangerland
Because she needs the exposure so people can start listening to her music right? Get her name out there so people know who she is?
Gotta laugh at Team Trump playing the music of the Titanic. Grandpa Trump and Weird Vance really didn't think that one through.
Strangerland
Vance and Trump should keep their musical views to themselves if they don't want musicians ringing in on how weird they are.
Strangerland
Trump should stick to playing Kid Rock and Ted Nugent songs. They're the best celebrity he can manage to pull, and they like him. But he should maybe aim for songs that aren't about sinking ships.

Wilbur Jennings wrote "My Heart Will Go On" not Celine Dion.
He was born and raised in Texas and is an avid Trump supporter.
Things are not always as they seem as Celine Dion has publicly stated she doesn't like the USA, she is not a citizen of the USA and ironically made all her money and fame directly from the USA.
It shouldn't matter what she thinks as she was only a paid performer singing the song.
Slayer
She sure likes the American dollar though. Other than that she isn't an American, her sound-byte is only her promotion for a comeback. She made a choice, that's as far as it should go.
Strangerland
Clearly someone who knows enough about copyrights to make a statement, but not enough to realize the statement entirely exposed them as not knowing much about copyrights.
Strangerland
Don't forget Grandpa Trump; she also has said she doesn't like Grandpa Trump.
Strangerland
Trump was too cheap to pay. She got no American dollars for this one.

Sony owns the copyright, not Celine Dion. She can rant about the song not being played at a rally. That's all she can do. Sony is thrilled that a song in their catalogue is being played. They do get paid for it.
Strangerland
You got a bit more of the info from your googling, there's 1/3 to go, keep googling and maybe you can figure out what it is.
You're getting there!

That's about all she can do!

And to be far, at his age and level of dementia, potshots at Trump are like shooting fish in a barrel.
He played a song about a sinking ship at his rally. As the primary main song at his rally. Ouch. Maybe if he wasn't so old, Gramps could have thought that through a little better.

In order to comply with copyright law, political campaigns must obtain a public performance license from organizations such as BMI or ASCAP. Songwriters and record labels usually enter into blanket licensing agreements that allow sports arenas and other venues to play their music.

The other 250 million may not take kindly to being associated with a rapist and felon.
funkymofo
Seems completely appropriate and unusually self aware that the trump campaign is using songs from the Titanic in their campaign.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Who is Trump's heart going on for? Vance?
N. Knight
Why? She has the right to her political opinions, just like anyone else; and she has the right to express her opinions too.
Just because you don't agree with her, you feel she should not have the right to express her opinion?
I think this just shows the authoritarian road that we are going down with prospect of the orange felon & child rapist being president.
zibala
Excellent point.

I’m against using unauthorized music as it is illegal. Trump is in fact breaking the law, again, and will likely have to pay his way out, again.
But, trump really nailed it on this chice as him and his campaign are sinking like the titanic.
u_s__reamer
"My Heart will Go on" played for a psychologically damaged man without one. Sad!
chotto_2
But Hulk Hogan shouldn't, right?
bass4funk
Thank you, the lady from Montreal should know this as a musician, not sure what is wrong with her, I can think of a few things, but I digress, she can voice her opposition, but to decide whether Trump can play it or not is not up to her.
Exactly.
u_s__reamer
All the unhinged Cap'n Cheeto can do now is rearrange the deckchairs at his rallies before Judge Merchan spikes his MAGA campaign with a sentence that sends his sinking boat down to the Locker (not the Davy Jones one).
bass4funk
That won't happen.
TokyoLiving
Well, what can you expect from Trump being Trump??..
It seems that the Kamala iceberg could sink the MAGA gang ship..
I imagine it sinking and all the rats jumping to save themselves...

Not sure what that means. Weird.

Trump is the captain who goes down with his sinking ship after hitting an iceberg named Harris.

By being not sure and digressing like you?
Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out.

That pretty much sums it up. Well said!

Second biggest selling single by a female ever. You tube views 126m, 86m, 171m on just a few of the available channels. Hilariously poor attempt at criticism.
MilesTeg
She's not from Montreal, did voice her opinion, and never said he can't play it. How about checking the facts and reading properly. LOL!
WA4TKG
Is she still alive?
TaiwanIsNotChina
She's not even 60, you know.
bass4funk
Ok, somewhere in Canada
I did check the facts. She can voice her opinion, but she can’t do anything about it.
Wow! She’s thought she was way older.
John
Except we all know that there’s no way he’d go down with the ship.
Donald would throw women and children into the sea to get a spot on the life boat.
Seapig
And no where did it say she said he couldn’t play the song. She did point out how entertaining the choice was, and that she didn’t endorse the use of the song with a video of her singing it!
Of course he can play the song, even though it’s a marketing nightmare. To forever link your sinking campaign to a ship that spectacular sank could only have been selected by someone that’s, shall we say, not playing with a full deck.
Do you think Trump got Dion’s permission to use her video? I seriously doubt it and, even if grandpa Trump can make the stupid choice of playing the song, it’s well within Dion’s rights since he went so far as using her image without permission to announce she in no way endorsed such use. It’s also well within her rights to ask how anyone, even an old man like Trump with very obvious signs of mental decline, could actually not realize how choosing a song about a sinking ship to represent a campaign that’s also obviously sinking.
Personally I think it was a great choice! It certainly exemplifies the campaign that this odd couple are running! Old, weird, and a sinking campaign!
GuruMick
Way to put the boot into Celine, people.
Most artists would be unhappy with an unauthorised use by Trump.
On the funny side, who can predict the insult Trump would hurl at her ?
"Not even American " not strong enough.
Have to reference her age, her looks etc.
You know...real classic, classy Trump.

i'd listen to her views way more than Trump. Let's flip that,!trump should keep his political views to himself because, cause frankly the man is a liar, a crook ( convicted) a racist.( very fine people on both sides) a draft dodger, ( proven) disrespectful to veterans who gave some, and some who gave all. (cause he only likes a certain group. Yes, please tell us, who should keep their views to themselves? Or are you advocating that only the views you don't like be silenced? If Trump can spout out his lies, insults, and threats, please let us know what Celine Dion can't?.
Did he or his campaign even bother to ask her? NOPE! In the words og trump, so disrespectful, tremendous disrespect. That women has more class, more respect, than Trump could ever have, and that includes people who may not actually like her music.
Yrral
His campaign is slowly sinking like the Titanic

Indeed. He’s too much of a coward even for that.
He’d convince his cult goons to do it.

No, I think that liberals are just too, too obsessed with the guy, helps him. Lol

No matter what Japanese think, most American do not sign for a collective suicide pact, why American will use all legal means to stop from becoming President

Interesting choice of song. Was the Jack and Rose pose reenacted at any point?
Maybe he can play "Nine Pound Steel" at one of his next rallies.

In the minds of the left, this is why they suffer so much from Trump on the brain.

I don’t know how all the copyright laws work, but it seems natural that the person whose recording is used should have a say in its usage.
Noliving
I disagree with that, saying the usage of the song is unauthorized is the same as saying he couldn't play the song.
Strangerland
No it's not.
It's saying it was unauthorized. You can't just make up that it said something it didn't.
bass4funk
It’s a bit more complicated, Celine really don’t have a say to claim anything since it’s not her song. This is how the business works.
First there are the Publishing Rights: These are typically owned by the songwriters and their associated publishing companies. “My Heart Will Go On” was written by the renowned James Horner (if you don’t know him, I would advise you to check him out) and Will Jennings (lyrics). The publishing rights are managed by the music publishing companies representing these songwriters. Horner’s music is often associated with Horner Music (administered by companies like Sony/ATV Music Publishing), while Jennings’ lyrics may be managed by a different publisher.
Then you have the Master Recording Rights: These rights pertain to the specific recording of the song performed by Celine Dion. The master recording rights are usually owned by the record label. In this case, Sony Music Entertainment, specifically the Epic Records division, owns the master recording of Dion’s version of the song, she will, however get a certain percentage of royalties for performing the song, speaking of, which brings me to my last point, we have what is called Performance Rights: These are managed by performance rights organizations (PROs) like ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC in the United States. These organizations collect royalties on behalf of the songwriters and publishers when the song is performed publicly, that’s how it works, so the woman can have an opinion, but she doesn’t call the shots or dictate who can sing the song.
Strangerland
That’s why she only released a statement that the use was unauthorized, while Issac Heyes family is suing trump for using Issac’s music, because they hold the rights.
