In Japan tv is so terrible that it's probably better for your kids to watch Youtube.

The children's programming on NHK is not bad actually. TV for grown ups is terrible, but for toddlers its quite good.
Unfortunately once my son started watching YouTube videos he lost all interest in that. For those with babies out there a word of warning: Don't let your kids start watching YouTube! The children's channels there are overwhelmingly garbage.

Only one thing I can say about this.

Don't these critics and fuddy-duddies have more important things to think about?

Yeah, stupid isn't it? I mean who cares what our children learn, its all good, right?

In a way the flip argument could be made. These days a parent or adult can sit with a toddler and see wonderful and nearly unlimited fantastic things, educational, mind broadening or whatever.
Compared to when I was a kid, this is the future happening now!
The problem is putting them on their own in front of youtube.

Isn’t it a bit late? Adults have been as mesmerized by this media for over 20 years now. Finally they’ve snapped out of it and are beginning to come to their senses and get serious. In the meantime we’ve lost a generation to the Internet. More coming. If not the Internet its the boob tube. Where are the educators when we need them?

Talareadokko:
Don't let kids watch boob tube...they're too young for that. Wait til they're 13 at least :)=

Parental guidance security software, often coming with the computer itself can handle that problem.
