I work in the entertainment industry. And I will never, EVER, do business with China.

Either Fincher or Palahniuk, or both, should give China a giant middle finger in their next work to reciprocate. It's only what Tyler Durden would do.

“As the movie is still under copyright, wouldn't this be illegal? Does not the copyright protect the movie from being used in derivative works?”
The Chinese don’t care about copy rights or human rights.

Film fans in China noticed over the weekend that a version of the movie newly available on streaming platform Tencent Video was given a makeover that transforms the anarchist, anti-capitalist message that made the film a global hit.
A proper occasion for the use of the term "Orwellian".

Whoever owns the rights to Fight Club should sue these bums. It's not their movie to alter.

Pity the Chinese police couldn't solve the COVID debacle and prevent it from "exploding".

So China is only releasing movies from 1999 now?
Tell them to completely avoid Matrix 2 and 3.
They can thank me later.

well, in China the authorities always win.

The Chinese government isn't really concerned with communism, or promoting it. It's concerned with authoritarianism.

The excuses communists make when their utopian ideals fail time after time. Communism made the CCP dictatorship possible. Capitalism, to the degree it was allowed, fed people for a while. Now that they are back to Xi's state control, it's all downhill again for China. Communism fits perfectly with authoritarianism, because they both require an all powerful state.

Chinese rulers are losers all the way. Total control over everyone, every thing and every thought is their main goal. They lie, hide the truth and lock away those who expose the truth and they now even change the ending of a film to give the authorities a happy ending. Supporting those things is reprehensible, as is supporting the CCP.

Doesn’t China’s revised Fight Club ending now allow ‘capitalism’ to win and continue to flourish in ‘the West’ ?? - In the original story, the main characters’ intent was to take down the major credit bureaus & financial institutions’ buildings & records, and therefore, wipe clean the debt of millions of people: a different kind of ‘great reset’, if you will.

Two wrongs do not make a right.

The CCP already knows! Keanu recently attended a "Tibet Benefit Concert." His acting career in China is over like Seth Rogan's career is over in North Korea. LOL!

Not good business but even Disney allows China oversight and approval of marketing campaigns & script revisions plus retention of 75% of China’s domestic box-office revenue. - The Force Awakens’ (2015) first draft and much-marketed Black Stormtrooper/co-star was reduced to a ‘sidekick’; later relegated to a janitor’s duties in the subsequent film, Disney’s SpaceWars: Last Jedi (2017); with the character entirely removed from or shrunken into the background of China’s promotional posters for their final film; and, images of Force-“ghosts” were replaced with voiceovers and a much-hyped, same-sex kiss deleted in their final film, The Rise of Palpatine 2019.

If the copyright owners had any balls they would sue the Chinese state for copyright infringement, but they haven’t, so they won’t.

'Communism' in modern terms is a totalitarian ideology where the Party always is right and in control. That's what 'Orwellian' means, so you are absolutely right. And in everything, even in entertainment it glorifiess the authorities. That means when you fight authority, authority always wins.
That gesture means nothing in China, but the phrase behind it does. The Chinese language has an 'F-word'.
It's just like at the Grande Finale of '2112':
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
We have assumed control
We have assumed control
We have assumed control

Isn't that the reality with capitalism ascendant East and West despite many of the precariat population suffering under it?
The dichotomy of a "commie China" serves the political interest in both East and West.

Sounds suspiciously like how slavery of Africans and the elimination of indigenous people was part and parcel of the American democratic experiment. It fit "democracy" for about 150 plus years I reckon.
