No, we want him to stay.

I hate to see him leave as I like his style. I am just thinking maybe he has been brutally too direct and too honest in playing this role.

-3 ( +14 / -17 )

He had a lot of courage when up against those gun nuts. I think his heart is in the right place on so many issues, but his style did not suit the US audience it seems.

CNN is going under. Their programs are too left. Get back to the middle and the ratings will come up.

-8 ( +8 / -16 )

CNN is in the center. You are not talking about CNBC and Fox.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

About time, finally! A few months ago, I actually heard from a friend of mine who works in the CNN building as a technician on a different area in the building where Morgan's show is taped and there was a small rumor about there might be a slight possibility that his show might get canned, but it was just speculation. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. He's smug, rude, crude and an overall jerk.

Kapuna

CNN is going under. Their programs are too left. Get back to the middle and the ratings will come up.

I agree, CNN had a series of problems with going a bit too much to the left and crazy programs like Elliot Spitzer (what was that all about) and a few other loud mouth obnoxious anchors that tried to bash a personal political viewpoint, ultimately ending in the firing of them, shows how bad it got. CNN was slowly on the verge of coming back, but they still had that once pebble in the show and that was Morgan. He was pompous and too condescending and that was rubbing many Americans the wrong way. One reason why Larry King lasted so long was because he listened, he never put himself out there as a know it all of ANY political issue. Piers thought that he could have a long lustrous career piggy-backing off King, but that never happened and anyone who has worked long enough in Television could see that Piers was slowly cutting his own throat. Kudos to CNN! They made the right decision. Now they have the chance to really restart and come up with better programming. They do have a good selection of talented Journalists and do most of the time good reporting. Hopefully, some good can come from this. Zucker is a good man and NOT an ideologue and I am sure he can turn things around.

@global

I know you are joking.

In my opinion the Piers Morgan show is one of CNN's best, among the broadcaster's offerings from what may be the best truly international lineup of serious journalists ever (Christiane Amanpour, Monita Rajpal, Wolf Blitzer, Isha Sesay, Anna Coren, Anderson Cooper, Kyung Lah, Pauline Chiou, Fareed Zakaria, Sanjay Gupta MDm Richard Quest).

I appreciated his effort to take on the gun nuts (@shanabelle), particularly the way in which he went out on a limb to talk sense to the American pubic more than any other journalist.

-9 ( +9 / -18 )

Morgan is a smug, self serving journalist. If anything his interview style can be a little direct for the US audience. his weighing into the gun row didn't help. He should go back to the UK where he will have to field the abuse he deserves without blaming it on US nutjobs and on his being a foreigner and more on his actual talents and personality. Put Jay Leno in his place......

0 ( +14 / -14 )

While his heart might have been in the right place, I got the feeling that on many issues he really did not seem to know what he was talking about. Talking from the gut is all fine and good, but talking from the brain with facts is pretty important, too.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

I'm with Morgan when it comes to gun law - how many more kids need to die in American schools?

4 ( +14 / -10 )

He seems like an okay guy. I just felt it seemed like he was plonked down in the interviewer's chair without the tools with which to make use of it. He generally seemed out of his element.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

He just couldn't fill Larry King's shoes !

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Private Eye have got Morgan right. he is dishonest and full of himself. And totally in thrall to power and money. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

I'm with Morgan when it comes to gun law - how many more kids need to die in American schools?

Me, too. However, he really went about it in the wrong way. I cannot remember what he said specifically anymore, but I remember it being heavy on emotion and light on facts. That is not the way to change the situation.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I never felt he was sincere and was only out to please his own agenda. Fox news would be a good place for him.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

I appreciated his effort to take on the gun nuts (@shanabelle), particularly the way in which he went out on a limb to talk sense to the American pubic more than any other journalist.

The problem is, insults like what you just said, calling gun owners nuts doesn't sit well with a lot of people. You can believe strongly in something without hurling insults and degrading people. Piers was smug and dismissive of anyone that wanted to cherish that right. Personally, I loved it when Ted Nugent gave him that nice verbal bashing about being a selfish one- sided so called journalist.

@AKBfan

That would certainly spike the ratings for sure. That'd be a good move for sure.

@slumdog

While his heart might have been in the right place, I got the feeling that on many issues he really did not seem to know what he was talking about. Talking from the gut is all fine and good, but talking from the brain with facts is pretty important, too.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. The problem was, he was TOO bias and just absurdly obnoxious when he debated anyone that believed in gun rights or a conservatives. Again, I don't have a problem with his beliefs, none. But I do have a problem when a person interviewing other people look at them as worthless and is belligerent. He's ratings started to slip and in this business, ratings are everything, you don't have good ratings, you'll be removed, relocated, replaced or gone as in FIRED. Remember, Rick Sanchez? Whatever happend to him?

6 ( +10 / -4 )

CNN is going under. Their programs are too left.

Left wing media doesn't really exist in the US. There's only somewhat center-right and far right.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

bass4funk,

This doesn't often happen, but in this case, I totally agree with you.

Piers Morgan is smug, rude, crude and an overall jerk.

Exactly.

And deathfully boring, to boot.

Maybe NHK should offer to give him a job.

I'm sure he'd fit right in.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Americans love the British accent,BUT they want tv personality Brits to be cute,passive and non confrontational.Morgan's style is not like that,so they kicked him to the kerb.I'd take him over Larry King no problem.He's not afraid to ask the tough questions that people want to know,but which a lot of mainstream tv pundits wimp out on doing.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I'm going to miss him slightly. He served as a stark reminder of why the American colonists threw off the shackles of the King's tyranny. Arrogant, smug, despicable bore. It's no wonder CNN's ratings are in the toilet. Most of their programming is ... poo.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

cracaphat,

Americans love the British accent

Sorry to break it to you, but British people don't have an accent. Americans and Australians do:)

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

its useless, it wont stop morgan to talking. only jeremy clarkson can handle him. lol

they should make program where morgan n clarkson debate about some issue, definitely gonna fun show to watch. lol

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Sorry to break it to you, but British people don't have an accent. Americans and Australians do:)

Being that I was born in England,grew up in Oz and have been to America twice.I can confidently tell you that I have more authority than you in accents and you need to go to England up north and try to understand what they're saying.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Being an Arsenal surely does not help his popularity. Manchester United fan outnumber other fans around the world. Since he took over from Larry King, I've never bothered to watch his shows & I've watched Larry King countless times.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Get back to the middle and the ratings will come up.

There is no money in the middle - CNN is already left of center. Opinionated watchers only want to watch what already reinforces their views. The opinionated left watch MSNBC. The opinionated right watch Fox. The people in the middle aren't opinionated enough to care to watch 24-hr news. No money in the middle.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Well Jeremy Clarkson will be pleased LOL

2 ( +2 / -0 )

This is actually the best news I've read in a long time.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

"Maybe NHK should offer to give him a job."

Before allowing him on air, NHK would make him sign an agreement banning him from saying anything negative about Japanese nuclear power. Or about Japan. Or the comfort women. Or that the "Northern Territories" are known to the world as the Kuriles. And so on, and so on, and so on.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

but British people don't have an accent

Then how come all those British people speak differently depending on where they live?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Back on topic please.

@Pandabelle

CNN is going under. Their programs are too left.

Left wing media doesn't really exist in the US. There's only somewhat center-right and far right.

What are you talking about? I worked for over 12 years in The news and I can tell you for a fact that in the US, 99% of the media are Left, Left leaning or Progressive, hands down. There is NO room for ANY kind of decent. Before FOX came along, TV really didn't have a voice for conservatives, except for the CNN show "Crossfire" and talk radio and the every now and then occasional appearances on some shows but that was it. Conservatives, traditionalists and libertarians didn't have a voice. Now they do. When I was in television, telling people you have conservatives views could get you in trouble and could make you a lot of enemies, even fired if some of the individuals had the daggers out for you.

@bertie

Same here. But yes, on this one, I couldn't agree more.

Americans love the British accent

Sorry to break it to you, but British people don't have an accent. Americans and Australians do:)

Honestly, that really was a good one, funny. touché. :-)

Americans do love accents like anyone else, but we don't expect Brits or Aussies to be anything but themselves, that's a myth of ever I heard one. Personally, I think Morgan has some talent as a journalist, but the problem was, he was wearing his ideology on his sleeve, showed his cards too much, bad move. This was the difference between him and Larry King. King is most definitely a liberal, but not an off the range loon liberal, that's why he last so, so long. It was Piers belittling of other people which made him a target for petitioning him to get kicked out of the country. There are thousands of Brits living in the US, it's not a conspiracy, but Piers and I'll say it again, was too obnoxious and I think Tucker realized this, the ratings were falling and they are already in 2nd place to FOX, he had to decide, keep losing in the ratings or cut your loses. He choose the latter. CNN has gotten a lot better under Zucker and they do put a lot more conservatives on then they used to, unlike msnbc that virtually don't put any, except for Maddow from time to time, but other than that. There are NO conservatives on msnbc. How's that fair or balanced (pardon the pun) seriously.

@bertie

Americans love the British accent

Sorry to break it to you, but British people don't have an accent. Americans and Australians do:)

Honestly, that really was a good one, funny. touché. :-)

1 ( +5 / -4 )

I watched the show, but come to think of it, he did come off as a bit arrogant.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I like that Piers made the unpopular stand on guns, but I can't stand the guy. He's a truly obnoxious human being.

Conservatives, traditionalists and libertarians didn't have a voice. Now they do.

Too bad Fox news is for the extreme right. More balanced conservatives still don't have a proper channel. They can either go with Fox news, half lies, half rhetoric, and all extremist, or they can go with a liberal news. Nothing for the fiscal conservatives who aren't into extremism.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

How many more kids need to die on American roads before we ban cars?

Guns: Primary purpose - killing Positive effect on society if guns are removed - less deaths Negative effect on society if guns are removed - none

Motor vehicles (cars, trucks etc) Primary purpose - transporting people and/or goods over long distances quickly Positive effect on society if motor vehicles are removed - less deaths, less polution Negative effect on society if motor vehicles are removed - collapse of society from inability to be able to move goods

It's an apples and oranges comparison. Guns are unnecessary, and do nothing positive. Their primary purpose is to kill. Motor vehicles have a primary purpose that has nothing to do with killing, with the unfortunate side effect that sometimes people get killed. Vehicles support the world, without them society and economies collapse.

If you want to compare guns to something else, find something that has a primary purpose of killing, and isn't a requirement for society to function, then make the comparison. Otherwise it's just rhetoric.

Wolf Blitzer, Anna Coren,, Kyung Lah,

Best? oh boy, the others are fine but these three? Kyung lah is a terrible "journalist" when she and her anti japan attitude left Japan as the Tokyo correspondent, it was a true relief.

Anna Coren? help us all, when she left Australia people were celebrating, CNN viewers got lumped with her.

Wolf Blitzer is.... well just last week Ted Nugent who gave Piers a real serve, said on twitter: If Wolf Blitzer is a journalist, I’m a ‘gay pirate from Cuba’ . Wolf Blitzer is just plain awful.

Anderson cooper - now there is a guy, he is on at 8pm, perhaps they should bump him to 9pm. if 9 pm is considered the more prime slot.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The best truly international lineup of serious journalists ever (Christiane Amanpour, Monita Rajpal, Wolf Blitzer, Isha Sesay, Anna Coren, Anderson Cooper, Kyung Lah, Pauline Chiou, Fareed Zakaria, Sanjay Gupta MDm Richard Quest).

You are joking right? That list looks like who's who of journalistic incompetents - especially Amanpour ... cannot stand seeing that person's reports on any topic. Always manages to make herself the center of any story.

One can no longer watch CNN without keeping a bucket close by for what the "reporting" induces.

And Morgan's show was among the worst.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I kinda liked him, but I guess it is sho ga nai.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The only time I liked his show was when Alex Jones was on. He's a complete nut, but watching those two was classic. Check out Jones British accent and boxing match challenge.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

CNN suffers because they lied so much in support of Bush and his group of loons like Dumsfeld, that ass hole Cheney, and of course Uncle Tom. As a result CNN became the bulls hit news channel which nobody watches anymore.

Morgan chained himself to the wrong horse.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

CNN suffers because they lied so much in support of Bush and his group of loons like Dumsfeld, that ass hole Cheney, and of course Uncle Tom. As a result CNN became the bulls hit news channel which nobody watches anymore.

When everybody in government is telling you, "We have definitive proof that Iraq is building weapons of mass destruction." You tend to believe that is the case. ALL the news channels were spouting the same B.S. that was spewing out of Bush's mouth. You can't single out one news service over that fiasco.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@strangerland

Too bad Fox news is for the extreme right.

And your proof of that is.....

More balanced conservatives still don't have a proper channel. They can either go with Fox news, half lies, half rhetoric, and all extremist, or they can go with a liberal news. Nothing for the fiscal conservatives who aren't into extremism.

FOX had the least amount of news retractions of any of the other cable networks. Unlike like CNN and especially msnbc. I worked for both NBC and FOX and I can tell you from my own experience FOX is not the one that is for conservatives ONLY. Working at FOX, there are a lot of liberals working there, a lot. Greta, Smith, Geraldo, Juan Williams, Beckel and Powers are NOT even close to being conservative. That's an outright lie. Does FOX lean to the right, yeah, slightly, however, compared to EVERY other network that leans extreme left or hard left is almost all of them. Conservatives, traditionalists and libertarians and even democrats have a network that will put on all sides of the debate and unlike msnbc or many of the other liberal networks, FOX usually always divide their time equally to both sides of the political spectrum. CNN is trying to be more to the middle, but they do lean left. But Tucker is a good man and I think he has so far made a lot of good business decisions to revive the network. I think most of the NOW journalists are quite decent.

CNN suffers because they lied so much in support of Bush and his group of loons like Dumsfeld, that ass hole Cheney, and of course Uncle Tom. As a result CNN became the bulls hit news channel which nobody watches anymore.

Yawn, so you really believe CNN, we are talking about the same Cable News Network?? They were supporting Bush? You definitely could've fooled me on that one.

@carcharodon

Best? oh boy, the others are fine but these three? Kyung lah is a terrible "journalist" when she and her anti japan attitude left Japan as the Tokyo correspondent, it was a true relief.

As far as Kyung Lah is concerned, she's really not that good, not because of what you mentioned, but as an overall journalist.

Anna Coren? help us all, when she left Australia people were celebrating, CNN viewers got lumped with her.

CNN-J is just the absolute worst, period!

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

"Morgan, in contrast, was inherently British and not just in his accent. In particular, he made repeated references to cricket, a sport with little U.S. presence, and professed his ignorance about American football and preference for the round football, soccer."

He's going to be 'inherently British' because he IS inherently British, and god forbid he call football by the name it is in every country in the world outside of North America! Why did they hire him in the first place if these were going to be problems?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

FOX had the least amount of news retractions of any of the other cable networks. Unlike like CNN and especially msnbc.

That's only proving my point, not yours.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Left wing media doesn't really exist in the US. There's only somewhat center-right and far right.

Panabelle you are partially right, the problem is 5 corporations control all media in the U.S., this is why they get so much right wing extremist propaganda.

And since we are talking about Piers, why am I reading this in Japan Today? How is it relevant to Japan today?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Morgan is nothing if not a BS blowhard. I find it amusing that there was an online petition on the White House website to DEPORT PIERS MORGAN with far more than enough signatures to require a White House (do-nothing) response. More touche is that his ratings are so low that even leftard CNN pulled his plug. Where is he to go? Back to " News of the World" hacking for gossip?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@strangerland

That's only proving my point, not yours.

More like it proves, you really don't understand how the news industry works at all, just by that comment alone. Meaning, inaccurate reporting or mistakes, fabrications, msnbc is the winner, followed by CNN

Oh sorry, were we talking about the news industry? I thought we were taking about faux news - aka extreme right tv.

Any link you give regarding legitimate journalism by definition isn't referring to faux news.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Smartest thing CNN has done in years! Now if they could just get rid of Anderson Cooper........

3 ( +6 / -3 )

A low-life who lived in the gutter of the UK press along with Brookes backed up by a fellow sewer inhabitant Murdoch. CNN is better off without this kind of infestation.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Oh sorry, were we talking about the news industry? I thought we were taking about faux news - aka extreme right tv.

ROFL, typical.

It's always funny how the far-left can get so uptight about a network that kills everything else in the ratings. Same goes for the anointed one. Like I said, I know how they all operate and being at NBC, I know exactly from my years working there who were bias and it wasn't FOX, I got to know a few people at CNN, at the time, they were left, not cooky far left, but for a time heading in that direction.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

It's always funny how the far-left can get so uptight about a network that kills everything else in the ratings.

The American ratings. You can't exactly call the American group intellect intelligent. Actually, you can very easily call it the opposite.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

'Like I said, I know how they all operate and being at NBC, I know exactly from my years working there who were bias and it wasn't FOX, I got to know a few people at CNN, at the time, they were left, not cooky far left, but for a time heading in that direction' 'Bias' is a noun, not an adjective. I think you'll also find 'cooky' starts with a 'k'. Come on, did you really work as a journalist? Stick to the arguments at hand rather than claiming inside knowledge.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Good riddance! And talk about killing two birds with one stone. The U.S. is rid of Morgan's "journalism" AND there's one fewer Arsenal supporter on the continent... ;-)

Some classic Piers Morgan highlights: http://www.ijreview.com/2014/02/117309-another-one-bites-dust-cnn-cans-piers-morgan/

@bass4funk

I worked for over 12 years in The news and I can tell you for a fact that in the US, 99% of the media are Left, Left leaning or Progressive, hands down.

There is no substantive left wing in the US. It has nothing to do with the media per se, by any global standard the political spectrum in the US is center-right to far-right. Most so-called leftists in the US would find, say, European leftists appalling. And can you imagine a party like the communists holding seats in government like they do even in Japan?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

@strangerland

It's always funny how the far-left can get so uptight about a network that kills everything else in the ratings. The American ratings. You can't exactly call the American group intellect intelligent. Actually, you can very easily call it the opposite.

So that's the best, you can do? Hurl insults and ad hominem attacks? But maybe you're right, CNN did hire Morgan, the worst mistake that network ever made. I think they more than redeemed themselves. Now that's true intelligence! But you guys still want to put down others that disagree with you. Why am I NOT surprised. Every time, they get backed into a corner, no proof is given, but insults are dished out, figures.

@jimizo

I think you'll also find 'cooky' starts with a 'k'.

Phat also starts with an "F" (technically) So now it means, I'm also not allowed to use slang the way I see fit? But Nice try though.

Come on, did you really work as a journalist? Stick to the arguments at hand rather than claiming inside knowledge.

I did and if you want to stick with the arguments, why the personal attacks? You libs ( short for liberal ) in all honesty, like Piers Morgan don't have ANYTHING to bring to the table except the usual bantering. You can dish it, but you guys can never take it. If you can't define yourself, insult the other person.

http://youtu.be/Q2btKEnfuA4

Here is another reason, Zucker is the man and without doubt, made THE right decision to give Morgan the boot. I think Morgan should go to msnbc where insulting and degrading people is the way of life. My old boss Mr Griffin is always looking for some outspoken talent, he'd fight right in with Sharpton, Matthews and the other ideologues. Where opinions ONLY matter.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Is it any surprise that Morgan couldn't connect with a US audience? D'oh!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@cracaphat

I am from Scotland, not england, and I came to America when I was 10 and had to take speech lessons in order for anyone to understand me.

As for that opinonated fool even the England did not want him on any program after he insulted a person that had the clout to stop his blabbering nonsense and her name begins with a Q.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Morgan's inability to connect with a certain demographic of Americans that do like respect or own guns, it Morgan would have immersed himself more in American culture and studied our history, he probably would've understood that having an opinion about an issue is one thing, but saying that gun owners are idiots and trying to get certain anti-gun haters liberal frightened politicians and the usual non-engaging hypocritical, know it all Hollywood ilk anyone with half a brain could've and should've known, Morgan was NOT only fighting an uphill battle, one he could never win. As a foreigner trying to influence American policy was just over the top, besides the before mentioned, he was quickly alienating more and more Americans and as a result, his ratings started to plummet and fast. Zucker

And there's more....

On Tuesday, February 18, CNN’s Piers Morgan Live delivered its second lowest rated episode among adults 25-54 since the program launched, with 50,000 viewers in the demo. The lowest rated episode was on May 15, 2012 when the show delivered 39,000 Adults 25-54. CNN 's primetime average from 8-11PM was the sixth lowest performance for CNN in two decades in total viewers (274,000) and adults 25-54 (64,000).

These are horrible numbers

Net 9PM P2+ (000s) 25-54 (000s) 35-64 (000s)

FOXN KELLY FILE, THE 2,068 354 670 CNN PIERS MORGAN LIVE 270 50 119

Kelly is wiping the floor and Morgan has had about a 3 year lead over Kelly who's had her show for just a few months. He's not even cracking 10% of viewership in this business in TV with ratings like that and you don't have the numbers, you are out of a job, period.

@strangerland

I'm only stating the truth that everyone in the world knows - the American public intellect is not intelligent.

ROFL I'm sorry, but what country do you come from where superiority reigns supreme?

If you consider the truth to be an insult, well it's too bad you're from a country that is known for its collective stupidity.

To a point you might be right, if a country like the US can elect the current president and CNN can give Piers Morgan a mic, you just might be onto something.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

"Smartest thing CNN has done in years! Now if they could just get rid of Anderson Cooper........"

Couldn't agree more! The main difference between Morgan and Cooper is the accent. But, at least Cooper more often allows others to finish a sentence before rudely interrupting, sometimes.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I agree that CNN has a pretty awful lineup as listed above. most of them are egotistical, have a definite liberal bias and are not particulalrly telegenic or insightful. Bass, you cannot seriously be claiming Fox isn't a right wiing station? Or that right wing views are well represented across the US media (shock jock anyone?). I am glad Morgan has gone and amused by the comment in the UK about hoping CNN find another job for him in the US because no one in the UK wants him in their media again. although he just won't stfu on Twitter and similar......

2 ( +3 / -1 )

you cannot seriously be claiming Fox isn't a right wiing station? Or that right wing views are well represented across the US media (shock jock anyone?).

As I have said before many times as a person that worked for a time at FOX, they do have a slight Right tilt slant, everyone knows it, they know it, they don't hide it, but when I started in the business, there weren't ANY outlets for conservative, traditionalists or libertarian voices out there. When I worked at NBC, being or admitting you were a conservative would impede your career ladder. These are demographics of the majority of Americans, you can't ignore. But FOX has a lot of liberals and libertarians and even Democrats, compared to CNN, NBC on the payroll and seriously lack. Look at the left, they have TV, most of the print media and the movie industry. Conservatives, FOX and talk radio for the most part, not as many print publications.

I am glad Morgan has gone and amused by the comment in the UK about hoping CNN find another job for him in the US because no one in the UK wants him in their media again. although he just won't stfu on Twitter and similar......

That's his problem, his big mouth.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Sad,but not surprising.The American public is not sophisticated enough for him.Good luck Piers.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

The American public is not sophisticated enough for him.

I don't know about the American public, but I did not find him all that sophisticated.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Sad,but not surprising.The American public is not sophisticated enough for him.Good luck Piers.

No, we a have a much higher standard of pride and dignity that was lost during his circus acts and whiny insulting childish outbursts at CNN, but now that he is relieved of his mic, we can get back our much needed sophistication back.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Bass4funk, With all do respect to your country,what exactly is your higher standard or dignity .Drugs and Guns out of control.Like most of the world Piers is genuinely concerned and outraged your people aren't.Frankly speaking your country is terrifying.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Morgan will not be missed, neither temporarily nor permanently. Maybe CNN can find a position for him at a quiet desk in a small room.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

@Pandabelle

Left wing media doesn't really exist in the US. There's only somewhat center-right and far right.

There is no substantive left wing in the US. It has nothing to do with the media per se,

First you're talking about the media, and then you deny that you're talking about the media. So which is it?

Most so-called leftists in the US would find, say, European leftists appalling.

Yes, American Leftists routinely try to distance themselves from Stalin, Hitler, etc. They insist that they're not anything like those monsters. They just want to institute all of their policies, that's all. Because the right people weren't in charge before, and all that.

@vokodlok

And since we are talking about Piers, why am I reading this in Japan Today? How is it relevant to Japan today?

It's as relevant as the all the NRA/gun articles posted in JT: None. It's just there to generate traffic so JT looks good to the advertisers.

@Strangerland

You can't exactly call the American group intellect intelligent. Actually, you can very easily call it the opposite.

Oh look, the master race has come among us commoners to put us in our place.

I agree with bass4funk, Piers Morgan would fit in perfectly at MSNBC. His ratings might be a bit higher than what they're used to though... ;)

@honey

With all do respect to your country,what exactly is your higher standard or dignity .Drugs and Guns out of control.Like most of the world Piers is genuinely concerned and outraged your people aren't.Frankly speaking your country is terrifying.

First of all, you'll find drug use in virtually every country depending on what drug we are talking about. Drugs are NOT an only US issue. As far a the gun debate is concerned, we've had guns since the revolution, many Americans have guns! many Americans hunt or use them for self-defense. I think there are many areas where we can improve and push gun safety to the forefront, but outright ban, Never going to happen and shouldn't need to happen. But, I have been to other countries that have strict gun laws and people still get attacked, bludgeoned, stabbed etc. Piers Morgan with his big mouth was making the gun issue and making it an American issue, but if he really is so passionate about the issue of guns, why stop there? Why not go to South Africa, the murder Capitol of the world or Columbia? This is why I think the man is a charlatan! His shtick was to put down Americans and spoon feed us as Donald Trump called it Old Europe culture down our throats and NOT surprisingly it did not sit well at all with Americans. I was reading awhile ago different news, blog sites, twitter and the anger towards this guy is just off the wall. No one was interested when he would talk about cricket a sport that would put most Americans to sleep and then there's Soccer... The show was about him and his inflated ego. Instead of talking about other issues, he made the gun issue a top issue and it's ok, to devote half of your shows segment on the issue, but second half, choose another topic, but his constant criticism of the US made it seem like killing is all we do and if you are a foreigner, you will be killed. And people like you with all due respect to you, probably have not traveled across the US to see, not only most Americans don't have a gun or RPG. I suggest, stop listening to talk radio and some of the other European bias channels and see the states for yourself. Then you can make a definitive opinion, instead of believing the hype!

Best interview Pierce made was with Alex Jones, epic!

Oh, by far and without a doubt! He looked like he was about to call security. He did NOT move an inch. I think that was the ONLY time, he kept his mouth shut and was very careful how he spoke on that day.

Morgan has too often come off as an arrogant know it all. He did not bother to learn much about America before he began to criticize the national character of his viewers. In short, he failed to adapt to his environment. His politics wasn't his downfall. CNN is obviously a leftest news organization. It isn't as whacked out as MSNBC but it is undeniably a supporter of leftist politics. If it wasn't Piers Morgan never would have been hired to work in an interviewer/moderator role in the first place.

This pretty much sums everything up about Morgan from another Brit.

I'd much rather PM - his interview withe the Dalai Lama was terrific. LK comes across as tired and disinterested.

ROFL I'm sorry, but what country do you come from where superiority reigns supreme?

I don't - I was born in Seattle.

So why is it that you are always attacking your country?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Piers was always arrogant and it was all about him from him trolling for twitter followers to promoting his soccer and cricket teams to not wanting to fit in and be American... when he was making his money and fame from being in America.. what a wanker.

Who watches CNN anymore?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I watched his show everyday, even recorded it so I could watch it at my leisure. He was a breath of fresh air to CNN in terms of bringing even a tiny bit of gravitas to the network. I'm kind of surprised he has such low numbers but over here they play re-runs of his show all weekend over and over so he must be popular to some degree over here. That being said, I'd love to see Jay Leno take over the spot, that would be great.

Get him out - the sooner, the better. Smug, arrogant, little substance, spent more time lobbing cupcake questions to his celebrity buddies than actually providing any substance. His opinions on the gun issue were poorly thought-out and executed, and were clearly evident that he was bringing his bias from a country with no guns to a country with guns, and had put no thought or research into how a function with guns functions. As is true for foreigners in Japan and every other country in the world, you simply can't transpose one country's values onto another without trying to understand the proper cultural, historical, and social contexts.

And while there are plenty of insane pro-gun people, there are just as many insane anti-gun people. Bring pro-gun doesn't make one a "gun nut," for the information of you mud-slingers out there.

@bass

Thanks for the link with priceless commentary on Piers Morgan. It was awesome.

There were so many signers on the "Deport Piers Morgan" petition on the Whitehouse website that Obama had to address the issue. Of course, Obama said that he didn't have the authority to deport Morgan. At the same time, a poll was taken in England. They voted that they wouldn't take Morgan back. After all, the English public had already kicked him out once. Australia, Canada, and the other English-speaking countries, who are familiar with Morgan's past use of his "journalistic" position to spy on and harass people who disagreed with him, do not want him either. Due to Piers Morgan's arrogance, he's a wanker without a country.

So now we are substituting Obnoxiousness with gravitas?? Frankly, I'm kind of surprised that the average person could see right through him and noticed that he was nothing more than an ignorant bully and a joke. The show was about him and that's all and Americans don't like that, not to mention a foreigner smooching off or us and then telling us. You guys are stupid, you don't know Cricket, you don't know Football (Soccer) that was too much and people had enough of it. Morgan has NO one to blame for losing his show, but Morgan himself. Hey, but after the end of March, he will live on in infamy on some insignificant network showing his reruns over and over again.
