While I understand the severity of the environmental problem we have created, we just cannot stop doing everything that might harm the environment. And I'm sorry, banning plastic straws while it sounds great is just a publicity stunt.

We can't stop doing literally everything that harms the environment, but we can stop doing certain things that harm the environment but have little benefit - like stopping using plastic straws. We use billions and billions of the things, and no one actually needs a straw to drink. They are harmful in their production and it their disposal. And if they are not disposed of they end up in the ocean.

And you have the gall to call it a publicity stunt.

So, their brilliant idea is to have people sit in front of their computer screens? Wow.

Why not have it on a barge floating around the huge plastics islands in the Pacific?

Meaningless virtue-signaling. They're still going to play music using instruments that are petroleum-based products. And they're still going to record that music on electronic equipment that is also petroleum-based, and that emits energy into the atmosphere.

This idea that we can destroy the earth just by living like civilized human beings is ridiculous. These enviro-alarmists have been so entirely sucked in by emotion and political ideology that they can't think logically.

I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to Coldplay but applaud their efforts to raise environmental awareness. When there are giant energy corporations spending billions to hide their destruction of the planet every little helps.

I am pretty sure that there used to be large pop concerts before the invention of plastic water bottles, it should not be that big of a challenge to figure out how to have a pop concert without plastic water bottles.

The CO2 enviro cult is becoming more and more irrational. But at least they are beginning to see that they have been hypocrites. They believe the world will end in less than 12 years because of CO2 emissions. It’s crazy but decades of indoctrination and media alarmism has actually resulted in a mass group think hysteria. It’s akin to the indoctrination of Mao’s Cultural Revolution.

The band, crew andequpment could travel via tall ship. The world tour would take many years. But what abt the fans driving to the stadiums?

Coldplay will be thrilled to have started some important discussion. I urge you all to read about ocean acidification and what has happened to the Great Barrier Reef. Read about bee and insect populations. Everything has to stop for a few decades if we as a human race are to dig ourselves out of this mess

I'm with Alfie, I don't like Coldplay as a band, but this is a good move.

By definition, unsustainable living can't be sustained, so it will all end anyway. The great challenge to the human race is to keep all of the good stuff that really does matter, healthcare, clean water and stable food supply for many, communications, etc. while cutting back overall consumption to the level that is sustainable. Only so much can be done with efficiencies. Sacrificing concerts by Coldplay or anyone else makes much more sense than sacrificing health care and clean air and coral reefs.

Should festivals be considered separately from concerts? Although they generate waste, for the few days that people attend, they are not indulging in normal activities such as driving, working, or heating/cooling their homes. Perhaps we should encourage more festivals. I'd be interested to see any numbers.

And all the other climate change deniers, to all those who deny what science is telling us because it might be a modest inconvenience to you living a selfish lifestyle, write a letter to your great great grandchildren to be read in a hundred years or so. Tell them why you didn't think it was important to change your lifestyle and why you knew better than scientific opinion.
