Excuse me, but voting for someone that's cool makes them a good father? What are the criteries that makes him a good father. I'm curious on what it's based on.

Pathetic.

How can a dead man make a "most ideal father"? There must be a lot of shocking, absent dads here if even a dead bloke is considered a better father!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Why? "Ideal"? Talento who are always on the road, always working and have little time for the family?

Ichiro? The guy is always away and is arrogant beyond belief - yes, he has a right to be but not exactly what I think are good qualities in a father.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I can see this. Surely someone who is famous for figuring out how to prop glasses/sun glasses on his forehead better than anyone else must make a great father.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

@sense

This is just my personal opinion, but I think for most Non-Japanese you can almost and I mean "almost" as a slight insult depending on how you take it as if the article was trying to insinuate that Tokoro is the Ideal dad and you are basically nothing, hang your head in shame. Getting an award for taking care of your kids, you're supposed to take care of your kids! That should be obvious! I just don't know who comes up with these kind of voting systems. I would think ANY father spending time and taking care of his kids and being a help to his wife or partner qualifies as a good dad, at least in my book.

The usual closed survey...choose one of these guys from a list of 10 guys, the usual 10 guys.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Obviously, these kind of things are based largely on image. It would be interesting to get feedback from their children to see if this was actually true or not.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

So he won with less than 5% of the vote. Does that really indicate anything significant?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Heavy smoker is ideal father??

2 ( +3 / -1 )

ehhh? How? Why? ugh...never mind...another useless poll. I think Nippon Life has too many employees with too little to do.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

OMFG! This is beyond pathetic hahaha!!!

Do people in this country even know what a father or mother even is???

By this stupid survey apparently not!

Another reason thank god I didn't grow up in Japan!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Tokoro Georgie would be alright... he's got some cool cars. From the list I would choose Kayama Yuzo because he can sing me to sleep. However, I would vote for Shimura Ken or Matsumoto from Downtown. 2 fathers! Now that would be something. Anyway, I think some of the posters here take things a bit too seriously.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Based on what? their PUBLIC image...really? What a stupid and useless survey

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Kennichi Matsuyama of Death Note is a probably one of the best fathers. How do I know? I teach his little boy. Kennichi always comes in to pick him up, when his mom Koyuki doesn't have time. Even though celebrities are busy, these guys changed the way I thought about them.

You know what this makes me think about? The fact that "Who wants to be a millionaire" in this country, is only contested by millionaires... Yes that's right... Instead of giving the everyday hard working person a chance at life changing funds, the rich are instead made richer.

It's just an advertisement campaign. Picking a name from a list they provided. Kind of a light hearted joke.

Cortes, confidentiality is probably expected from your students, and their families. Tho, you mean well.

Where's my banana?

@HaraldBloodaxe A bit rough calling him a buffoon . I always thought he was a pretty smart dude.

@bass4funk

Well said. Just what are the criteria?

Then again, are we forming our own values, or just being drip-fed other people's agendas, and being obedient little consumers?

I pretty much 100000% guarantee you that guy smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day. Dad of the year for sure!

0 ( +4 / -4 )

A charming, smart and funny guy, well-liked, respected and accomplished in his field, got voted "ideal father" in an advertiser's popularity poll. That's all. Makes sense to me, especially if other fathers are looking for someone to emulate. Why everybody gotta be hatin' on that?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Finally, I know this guy's name. He is kind of annoying. OTOH, I would bet that Ken Watanabe is a terrific Dad, and he is not annoying!

I heard Tokoro George has a license to grow pot...

I'm sure he'd be overjoyed to know you're listing up his familiy's private routines on the internet. Take a little care.

Now, Nippon Life Insurance Co should send out gifts to these 'ideal' fathers on or before Father's Day i.e. 15th June, 2014 !

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Welcome to the World of imperfection.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Based on what? their PUBLIC image...really?

Based on the fact they are old azz men which automatically makes them ideal fathers duh

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Ken Utsui, Ken Takakura, Kayama Yuzo, Shigeo Nagashima and Sadaharu Oh must all be in their late 70s / early 80s. They should be in the running for the best grandpa award!

I agree that Ichiro wouldn't be a good pops either. I bet he'd be quite Spartan with his kids.

Also, I think a few posters above might be taking this light-hearted unimportant poll a little too seriously. I don't think Japanese people do so everyone just relaaaax.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Is Tokoro George still around? Who knew.

@carolee

So for most people with a decent amount of relative sense, we should just read it and clap our hands and shout "sugoi" because Tokoro is to be this supposedly great dad? I'm sorry, but I'm a father and maybe for you it is an interesting read, I respect that, but for many of us, it seems like the Japanese get all giddy when they hear stories about best dad or best mom or best behaved child. All of it is subjective. It's just like, my kids are the cutest for me, because they are MY kids, others might disagree and think the same about their kids and rightfully so. So for the life of me, I am just confused at what the entertainers are trying to convey, other than Tokoro makes a lot of cash, be jealous of him, because ONLY he can be a great dad and your life is **** But none of us have the right to comment on this story? If HIS family think he's a great dad, Im fine with that, but who cares what people in the entertainment industry think. Heck, if you go by that, Justin Bieber should be the absolute greatest talent to have ever walked the earth in music history. Come on....

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Has this buffoon even got kids?
