i feel for the kids. It’s a horrible time to be alive, compared with growing up in the 90s. That was pretty damn good overall

She is 100% on the money!

Can't agree more, and while the yt / stand up comments are true, you have to consider exposure and risk as well which don't quite align to any series or movie production.

Laugh at yourself. I do.

Cheer up. Lots of 60s to 90s comedy, TV and movies to be had on DVD. You can get a box set of 30 'Carry On' movies for £23 new, less used. 'National Lampoon's Animal House', Clouseau, Ferris, 'Blazing Saddles' and other Mel Brooks movies, Monty Python, and right back to the monochrome pioneers like Laurel and Hardy, Harold Lloyd. For TV, stacks of sitcoms such as 'Are You Being Served', 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum', 'Fawlty Towers', 'Yes Minister', 'Allo, Allo', through to 'The Young Ones', 'Red Dwarf', 'Blackadder', 'One Foot in the Grave', 'Men Behaving Badly'. And the comedians - The Two Ronnies, Les Dawson, Tommy Cooper. Double entendres a plenty. We have a rich comedy culture. Plus all those US series: 'Cheers', 'Taxi' etc. Enjoy it. Historically, puritanism is never popular for very long. Woke censorship will pass.

The world needs a little bit of laughter and humor. It's too woke to laugh nowadays.

AGREE, every since Trump couldn't take Obama Jokes things has really changed.

Or when Trump made a joke about Pelosi and Hillary, they didn't take the jokes at all well.

All TV and movie now really need to comply with wokeness in all of it's form.

And yet stand-up comedy and comedy podcasts are bigger than they've ever been. Perhaps people just got tired of generic, out-dated, laugh-track comedy like Friends and the dross that Adam Sandler puts out.

Thanks to the alphabet peep with different pronouns. Sheesh.

It’s so difficult for comedians like Ricky Gervaise to deal with woke/cancel culture- I mean, the poor guy only got $40 million for his last Netflix special. So brave.

I didn't know she was a comedian. I thought she was a sitcom actress.

There are plenty of mediocre stand-ups in the UK playing stadium gigs and appearing in regular quiz panel shows. Loads of them must be making way more money than comedians in the past, even legendary ones like the Pythons or Derek and Clive.

The wokeists have no sense of humour, so they dont notice the dearth of humour nowadays.

Been watching Mind Your Language series and couldnt stop laughing… Back then all was so carefree… so good.

Youtube is crawling with all kinds of comedy. It's an unexamined trope that comedy is being undermined.

Perhaps people just got tired of generic, out-dated, laugh-track comedy like Friends and the dross that Adam Sandler puts out.

When Adan Sandler on SNL made his sing-song about schoolboys having their moms as 'summer vacation lovers', I somehow knew that comedy was dying, fast. How could anybody stand themselves making sick 'jokes' like that? And when 'Cheers' (with the live studio audience, NO laugh track!) went off the air 30 years ago, a corner had been turned.

Just the other day I went to a cinema for the first time in a few years and caught 'Cocaine Bear'. It's ridiculous, campy, far-fetched, preposterous and more than a little silly but it was 2 hours of good rip-roaring fun and funny graphic horror. A kind of dopey (but not stupid) film reminiscent of so many comedic horror films from before the 90s. It's a BLAST BLAST BLAST.

World has turned ridiculously woke

All the woke nonsense is the death of humor.

Back before the internet, a comedian or tv show might get "letters" in the mail or perhaps something critical written about them in a newspaper. That was the worst case scenario. Eventually you might get blacklisted if you steal jokes or piss off a powerful rival. You could pretty much say anything as a comedian (unless you say the "n" word like Michael Richards). These days, its hundreds if not thousands of SJW's making comments on Twitter, then a TV show or a morning news talk show picks it all up for ratings and then it becomes a "thing" that potentially ruins careers if a sincere apology isn't made. I agree with other posts, it would really suck to grow up in the current era. I can't imagine what high school would have been like in the 90s had there been Smartphones and Social Media. The bullying was bad enough in those days and thats not saying I didn't do any myself.

90% of Robin Williams stuff today would be banned.

What make Russel Peters funny, what makes Fluffy funny?

Well as ethnic comedians they can get away with doing ethnic accents and not just their own.

The get away with mocking ethnic stereotypes.

But even they are now in trouble, sure Fluffy can do Mexican/Hispanic accents but now Arab, Asian are out.

Russel Peters has been told to stop doing his Chinese accent skit about Indians and Chinese differences.

But without the exaggerated accents (and he over exaggerates both to the extreme) the skit isn't funny.

I saw a university student meeting on YouTube, the students calling a personal point of order complaining that an auditorium filled with students needed to be quiet because people talking was triggering his anxieties.

And people sat there taking him seriously.

If young people today can handle people around them talking, a joke will send them running for a bottle of Prozac

Aniston is spot on! Offend the woke and your career is over. The woke preach tolerance for others but in reality are intolerant of others.

The reason the right is pushing culture war hysteria is because their economic policies are a proven failure and their party is in disarray.

U_S_dreamer.

I guess that is why all we get are woke fantasy stuff or another zombie TV series

Jennifer Aniston said she wishes we could laugh more at ourselves, rather than having to police every word in comedies.

(Applause) Uplifting to know that there is still at least one person with common sense in “Hollyweird.”

In contrary, it’s never been funnier than nowadays. All those legions of crazy people, even in highest and responsible positions, the wokies, the cancel culture faction, the lefties, the greenies, the climate changers, the conspiracy theorists , the general in Pentagon seeing UFOs and spying alien motherships, the CO2 wannabe extinguishers, the solid and H2 fuelers, the EV lovers without enough power refill stations, and so on and on and a lot more. It’s pure fun 24/7 to see and hear all of them and how they insist in destroying everything that worked well before, faster than it was time needed to create and build it all up. A view to the end of all having the maximum of fun, that’s maybe a good description for it.

As other posters have mentioned, there is more comedy available now than ever before.

It's a tired cliche about being cancelled by the woke mob. Some comedians derive most of their revenue by doing tours and podcasts about how they are being cancelled.

But then, what do I know. I have never associated Jennifer Aniston or Adam Sandler with being funny.

Jokes are not about insulting someone.

The problem of (self-)censorship arises from the politicization of cultural values that is inevitable in a huge country with a multi-ethnic population. Since 1980 the "tossed salad" of the USA has been turning ever more rancid as the country slides off to the right (the most bigoted, censorious and ignorant section of the population that politicians of Trump's ilk batten on). The only fix is the passage of time and changing demographics. All this "woke" nonsense churned out daily by venal parties will be soon be history when the real problems of society start to concentrate minds. And btw, American humor will never die thanks to its substantial, laughter-rich Jewish "salad dressing".
