Fight it. Beat it. Win. Be well Mr. Sakamoto.

hope it's curable. At least he is just an instrumentalist and not a vocalist. He has done some amazing stuff - Melly Chlistmas was onlty one of the more commercial ones.

As well as "Merry Christmas" I like the music from the "Last Emperor". Best wishes for a speedy recovery Sakamoto-san.

Let's hope its a merry Christmas Mr. Sakamoto!

He smokes and one of the many risks usually catches up with smokers.

SMOKERS, please take note! Smoking is stupid beyond words. It will cut your life short just when it should be culminating!
Danny Bloom
Fight it, Professor! You will lick it. GO GO GO. we need your voice still. recover soon. may the gods of music be with you!

I hope this musical legend recovers fully - Mr. Sakamoto is also a generous humanitarian. To think Japan Tobacco is still officially stating that there is no evidence to link smoking to cancer is a disgrace.

Mr. Sakamoto-San
...Ganbatte Kudasai...

Does he live in the US? Just wondering why the treatment in the US, not Japan?
Good luck Mr Sakamoto!

"Smoking is stupid beyond words."
Absolutely. Give up smoking and you will be healthier and have the power of knowing what's best for other people.

Mr Sakamoto San, be strong. I have a friend who had throat cancer, he had smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish. He went to Australia and had treatment there but 5 years later the cancer came back. He went for further treatment now he is leading a busy and active life. Take care, best wishes and good luck.
Kathy McElfish
I hope he will get well soon. My dad had the same thing and he's just fine. I'm sure Sakamoto-san will get through this. I wish all the best for him and his family.
Ali Khan
we wish you a healthy recovery, good wishes for your family and please take care

Or take up smoking and have the power of inflicting your dangerous, foul fumes on innocent bystanders.
This filthy habit has robbed the world of too much talent already. Remember Humphrey Bogart, Noel Coward, Enrico Caruso, George Harrison....?

In the Japanese announcement the term "mesopharyngeal carcinoma" has been used.
Salted fish and meat, smoked food and virus infections are strongly associated with this type of cancer. Alcohol and tobacco may contribute to the development of this cancer but the link is not that strong.
It is especially common in southern China, Hong Kong and Greenland but rare in U.S and Japan.
Alan
That's interesting, because my reading yields the exact opposite pattern: smoking and drinking as major causes, salted/smoked meat and viruses as less common factors.
Another throat cancer victim was Puccini, who was a very heavy smoker.

The risk of cancer is partly due to genetics. If his family is predisposed to throat cancer, then yeah, smoking is about the stupidest thing you can do. If that's the case, then don't apologize to your fans; apologize to your family for such stupidity.

Yes, he lives in NYC.
Best of luck to Mr Sakamoto - people around the world are hoping for a quick recovery!
Danny Bloom
Actor Michael Douglas got throat cancer a few years ago and he beat it. with today's advanced meds, the Professor wil beat it too. Recover soon, good man Genius
bruinfan
I hope for Mr. Sakamoto's complete recovery.

Though I totally disagree with Mr.Sakamoto's political position, I can't help loving him as an artist. He will be alright, today we can fight cancer and win. NYC has great hospitals and great doctors. After recovery please come to Japan and show us the gig! My prayers.
