The US military is a lot more powerful than it was 150 years ago. I suspect any civil war will be a short one.

You suspect. And I suspect a hell of a lot of the soldiers and officers will be on the other side.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, was recently criticized for seemingly joking he would be a "dictator" on "day one" if he wins a second term as president. He faces charges of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election, which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

Looking forward to the film, anything by Alex Garland.

I have heard this film is apolitical, but for a more overtly political film "Bushwick" was decent.

Texas militias launch an assault on NYC, thinking it will be a lib pushover and find out there are a lot of well-armed lib activists and gang-bangers there as well.

Typical "squirrel !" move by the MSM. Most don't realize they're being manipulated by this into thinking Trump BAD. Why? Cuz the MSM is running cover for Biden's warmongering. It was just yesterday with the fake "bloodbath" mind control move.

Is it a conspiracy?

"Civil War," which premiered at the SXSW Festival last week and hits theaters April 12, pictures a three-term U.S. president in Washington DC battling secessionist forces from California and Texas.

I don't see any situations where Texas and California team up. The writers need to do better.

Not far from reality..

Crumbling from inside is the new normal from good old US..

Maybe they need a little help..

Let's call Rambo, Arnold, Captain Amerikkka and the Biker Mice from Mars..

LOOOOOL

The military is composed of patriots who put their lives on the line for the country. MAGA is composed of losers who think it is ok to make fun of such people and support America's enemies.

Well Texas has a lot of liberals in it. Maybe they are envisioning that the liberals need to take down a constitution violating T---- president and the countryside is shooting their tin cans as always.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

A violent clash between California and Texas would be a more "realistic" scenario while a Mexican fantasy movie showing how they repossessed California, Texas and other territories the Gringos stole would be even more of a hoot.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Trump has threatened violence if he loses the 2024 elections.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Biker Mice from Mars..

This was a deep dive even for this 90's "kid".

I usually don't read your comments because of the "LOOOL" but + 1 for referencing a series that had "Ronaldo Rump, a Chicago real estate tycoon who has stolen it so he can transform Mexico into a humongous golf and hotel resort."

So it is very relevant as the article states

"In early reviews, The Atlantic noted an "uncomfortable resonance in these politically polarized times." Rolling Stone said "you might accidentally mistake" the film's futuristic premise for the present.*

The movie's "three-term president" appears to invoke the fears held by many Americans that Trump -- if re-elected -- could ignore the U.S. Constitution's two-term maximum, and refuse to step down after four years.

Americans seem to love conspiracies. The more fallacious, the better. As in this example above. But, then again, everyone enjoys a fun conspiracy, like they might enjoy a good movie.

The preppers would get a rude awakening should they find themselves up against drones and the kind of military hardware they can’t buy at the local gun shop.

’well regulated militia’ doesn’t mean shooting beer cans on a Sunday in camo shorts.

lol it’s not a major film or controversial

looks like something even Netflix could do better

It is produced by A24. A relatively new film company that already have 16 Oscar wins, including best picture twice.

This movie is their highest budget production to date. It is a ‘major film’.

I've enjoyed Garland's work in the past, so I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Depending on who was President at the time, the other side with their EV's, plant-based climate alarmists with all of their colorful garb wouldn't stand a chance either. Remember, a coin has two sides.

They wouldn’t be fighting.

Remember, a coin has two sides.

Of course. A side who stock up on guns and live in fear and a side who don’t.

Yes, proud of it.

and a side who don’t.

Right, but live in fear of the high crime that they created in their city and states and then flee to the areas where people carry the big guns to protect them, so yes.

The difference is the liberals wouldn't be dumb enough to take on the military.

Right, but live in fear of the high crime that they created in their city and states and then flee to the areas where people carry the big guns to protect them, so yes.

The police don't carry that big of guns usually and the suburbs are not low in crime because they have more police.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

for crying out loud, it's a film. There's no need to take anything in it personally. and if you don't like it, no one is forcing you to see it. See a different film. Or take a walk. It's your life. Just don't complain about it here.

military drone strikes launched on U.S. citizens

Judging by the physical state of 'patriot militias' that will be like shooting fish in a barrel. Who will weight-averse Hollywood cast ?

John Candy died years ago so that only leaves Steven Seagal.

They take on the police so…

So why is the crime so high blue suburban cities, legitimate question. Answer please. Funny that the left don’t want to answer that question.

Because there are only blue cities and purple suburbs.

And on that point, the same applies to us as well. The left have all the money and the right the guns, both sides of the same coin, interchangeable.

These include anti-government militias clashing with federal forces,

Antifa clashed with neither federal forces nor federalized national guard units. In fact, rarely with local police and that was when they besieged police precinct houses.

Oh, you say antifa is not an anti-government militia? If it looks like a duck …

The US military is a lot more powerful than it was 150 years ago. I suspect any civil war will be a short one.

That’s what both sides thought marching to Manassas in the summer of 1861.

”The US military” was both sides. It was a sectional war.

Crack a book.

there is nothing in the constitution prohibiting one or more states from seceding. lincoln didn’t like the constitution, exiled newspaper editors who criticized him, raided and shut down newspapers that criticized him, and they were in the north.

he simply ignored the 1st amendment. just like today, police ignore the 1st amendment, arresting people for standing on a sidewalk with a camera, arrest people for not identifying themselves (show me your papers) without any suspicion of a crime.

the cases are thrown out, victims sue, hundreds of millions of dollars are paid out by taxpayers in settlements and police are rarely held accountable.

just because you make laws doesn’t mean wannabe dictators will follow them.

a civil war scenario about ideology is less likely than one pitting people against the police.

This is why America was so successful in Afghanistan and Vietnam… wait….

Yours was a mob armed with poles and bear spray. The famous NY fight with the cops was like one or two dudes at a time. In any event, I am prepared to say lock them both up equally.

Show me the antifa training grounds. They don't even have a spokesperson.

We don't live in an age of set-piece battles anymore. Perhaps you need more books.

20 years in both places without being driven out and fewer casualties than Russia in Ukraine against conventional forces.

Where to begin...

there is nothing in the constitution prohibiting one or more states from seceding.

The Supreme Court actually ruled there was no right to secede and the 14th amendment slams the door by stating all people born on US territory are US citizens first and citizens of their states second.

lincoln didn’t like the constitution, exiled newspaper editors who criticized him, raided and shut down newspapers that criticized him, and they were in the north.

Yes, wars curtail liberties. Has always been this way.

he simply ignored the 1st amendment. just like today, police ignore the 1st amendment, arresting people for standing on a sidewalk with a camera, arrest people for not identifying themselves (show me your papers) without any suspicion of a crime.

Sources of people arrested for standing on a random sidewalk or not identifying themselves (note if you are driving you have to produce a driver's license).

the cases are thrown out, victims sue, hundreds of millions of dollars are paid out by taxpayers in settlements and police are rarely held accountable.

There are indeed a lot of ridiculous suits against the police. Part of why they should have personal immunity.

just because you make laws doesn’t mean wannabe dictators will follow them.

The US isn't a dictatorship yet. We might get there but not yet.

a civil war scenario about ideology is less likely than one pitting people against the police.

Sounds like you personally are at war with the police. Doesn't sound like a wise move to me...

the supreme court isn’t always right. it’s always colored by politics of a time.

Sources of people arrested for standing on a random sidewalk or not identifying themselves

surely you jest? go to youtube and search 1st amendment and police.

Sounds like you personally are at war with the police. Doesn't sound like a wise move to me...

i have a problem with bad ones. don’t you?

Honestly, you will not believe this, because I did not at first. I watched a 20 min doc on YT yesterday titled some thing 'just how dumb are GenZ Americans' it was unbelievable. All the the interviewer asked was a series of very simple American based questions, the main one was who fought in the USA Civil War, not one out of about 20, could not even give an answer and about half of them had never heard of it. Another main question was name 3 countries in the world apart from the USA, only one could just name one country, Mexico. Then there was 'What is the capital of 'Chicago', no one even had a guess at that, but it was a little tricky...lol!! And then there was..'Name the the 2 countries that border the the USA'....only one got half of that rght, Canada. There were many more very simple questions, but I could not watch it until the the end.
