Pop singer Amuro gives final performance in Okinawan hometown

Some people don't have that person to show them the way of life so they let music influence them. Not all parents are role models.

She was one of the best for decades. With all the many groups around, a solo career like hers was amazing.

I envy those fans that are crying.... wish I could get into something that much. Its good that they enjoyed her music that much!

Actually, it’s surgeries and heaps of make up... Japanese men know that Japanese women change their face extremely by applying make up and wiring under eyes! Yet foreign men don’t realize it. Very few are natural beauties but foreign men are obsessed with Asian women and form this preconceived idea of them being super hot!

Music and musicians have always touched the lives and hearts of people and created deeply emotional bonds! It's true the world over and has been true for as long as I can remember.

Whatever any of us think of Amuro and her music, she changed the J-Pop world and inspired thousands, even millions, during the course of her career. And unlike so many J-Pop artists, she truly was a unique star who stood out and was different. She probably is the closest thing to a Madonna that J-Pop has ever seen.

And, when it comes to Okinawa, she literally blazed the trail for so many aspiring singers / dancers from Okinawa who wanted to follow in her footsteps. She created an industry in Okinawa virtually overnight. Okinawa is a million miles from Tokyo and the music industry and yet she gave a face to all those young people in Okinawa who dreamed big.

No pot shots from me at her or all those that are saddened by her retirement. She has left her mark and will be remembered by so many for decades to come!

I guess she wanted to have a nice ending while it lasted. Not every famous singer can end it this way like her. In hollywood,it usually get way more messy and ugly for those that stubbornly cling to it.

Time to enjoy the retirement and get rid of those annoying journalists.

Kumiko, you're right. Just the fact that she's been around for more than 25 years and still has enormous appeal among fans from their teens to their forties and beyond is something. I wish her all the best.

People criticising this are soulless. People have been fans of her for decades. Her songs are a thread that runs through their lives. Sweet 19 blues reminds me of my time as a student. It is like the end of an era. I didn't see her live, but probably i would have cried too

I think Namie said that before she became famous, when she was singing in shopping centers in Okinawa, most people, incredibly, just ignored her. I think she's a great singer and performer.

I personally don't get the idolizing of any famous folks be they musicians or sports stars but to each their own.

People are moved by different events.

I certainly enjoyed some of her music and there should be few folks who could deny that she still is smokin' cute.

Amuro is said she is 40 years old. Recent Japanese ladies appear young and charming. Long time ago, I was introduced a lady and had an "omiai" interview. I was told beforehand that she was 30 years old. But, the lady who appeared before me looked 50 years old. I was shocked and thought about hardships she went through in her life. Happy life make people young and charming.
