Distancing from the criminal and domestic terrorist of the NRA is a very good sign that there is some hope..

There is some inside information that the NRA wants to draft a bill to allow kids to CCP as long as they have a clean record and have recommendation from their schools. It seems the police could not even protect them since they waited outside for an hour. The only thing that can protect a kid from a bad guy (or kid) with a gun is a good kid with a gun. How else can kids protect themselves when there is no adult (especially when police had to wait outside the school) around?

How about like every other civilised country in the developed world.

Remove all guns except very strictly controlled hunting and target guns all single shot bolt action.

See simple solution

Funny how my children went to school in Japan never once worried about a gun attack.

Funny my nieces in Canada in high school aren't worried.

My cousin's children in UK elementary school not worried.

Only in the USA is it a problem.

But here is an extra reason to remove guns.

Homicide rate in the USA is 4.9 per 100K 79% of those are by gun.

Canada homicide rate is 1.76 per 100k with 32% being gun related.

Australia homicide rate is 0.89 per 100k with 13% being gun related.

UK homicide rate is 1.2 per 100k with 3% gun related.

Japan's homicide rate is 0.22 per 100k with on Average 0 gun related.

There were 614 mass shootings in 2020 that fit the inclusion criteria of this article, resulting in 446 deaths and 2,515 injuries, for a total of 3,061 victims. Compared to the previous year, there were 180 more incidents.

The Above would be near zero without guns.

The USA homicide rate would drop by a minimum of 50% *remember 79% of homicides are gun related)

It is hard to kill 19 children in a school with a knife, wonder how much collateral damage would happen from a drive by knifing!

Gun supporters just cannot understand simple math simple logic or they just do but like their guns more because most feel more macho with a gun.

Americans cannot enact gun control because the Republican Party is deep in the pocket of big guns, and their people aren’t allowed to vote for any kind of gun control: https://www.propublica.org/article/a-republican-tried-to-introduce-a-commonsense-gun-law-then-the-gun-lobby-got-involved

So instead they get their sheeple to bleat ridiculous arguments like “dems won’t ban cars or knives” as if anyone above 80 IQ think that’s a logical argument.

They are only doing so to boost their flagging careers. This lot are mostly gun loving, white nationalist Trump followers. They are thinking of themselves first.

Maybe so, but it’s still cause for some encouragement in that the toxicity of the NRA is being acknowledged.

Not sure how long it’s going to last though.

How long is the average thoughts and prayers period?

Americans are just going to have to give up guns. They can't handle it

Have a monthly buy back / amnesty program. At least get the number of guns to below the entire population, that's insane

And repeal the 2nd amendment, should they wish to live

Nothing will happen of course.

The right to bare arms in the US out weights the right for children to live. Strong men feel unable to deal with life without the comforting weight of a gun in their hands. Small children live in fear every time they leave the house, when they go to school or shopping or even going to church. They might get shot at any time. All to alleviate the fear of grown adults having to live unarmed. A small price to pay apparently, the loss of a son or daughter, or of a friend, just to continue to remain armed and dangerous.

The American way, in this instance it is cowardly. People succumb to fear of not having a gun when they think they might need one. But everyone having access to guns is precisely what makes life so dangerous to public and police alike. They will not learn with mass shootings, they will not learn with the loss of family. They will never learn.

Humans are civilized and wise, smart and adaptive. Yet gun culture argues otherwise.

Greenwood, whose patriotic signature song regularly rings out at Donald Trump rallies, said he canceled "out of respect" for those mourning, while Larry Gatlin said he couldn't perform "in good conscience."

For Americans on the right, the green comes before even the God and guns.

Greenwood is immune from cancellation due to the base he shares with Trump, but this was probably a bridge too far even for him and the others. He will be back when this shooting is forgotten and before the next one hits like clockwork.

There actually is a logical reason for wanting to have guns legal - and that reason is liking guns. They’re fun to shoot and they are excellent for defence.

But American gun owners are not willing to admit that it’s impossible to do both of allowing the populace to own guns without restriction AND not having children periodically be short up at school. You can have one or the other, but both is a logical impossibility.

A step in the right direction.

Here is the biggest false information NRA and gun owners spread.

Where does the NRA get it money?

Ask this question on Google and you are inundated with sites and answers like "from people like me a payed up member" or from the 5 million members ( get this straight 5 million members out a population of over 350 million people) ( the AARP have 39 million members NAACP have over 2 million BTS USA fan club has 11 million members)

But back to funding, Member's contribution account for only 50% of the budget the rest comes from the gun industry, on top of that the NRA has diverted it's focus to its Lobbying arm and TV station both separate entities financed by unknown sources.

The lobbying arm gave out over $380 million in 2020 but member's contributions and donations to the main (original) arm of the group was only $175 million. This $380 million is on top of regular daily operations, it's TV station, etc.. estimated total expenditure for 2020 is between $450 and $550 million far more than the $175 million from regular members.

Really any international organization should stop holding events in the USA.EG the Olympics, world championships etc. It is very dangerous. Any day of any week sees a massacre involving normal citizens with semi auto all because they are having a bad day. In the USA to give oneself a lift up from having a bad day just pick up your semi auto and a few magazines and have yourself a massacre. It quite easy, there is never a good guy with a gun when a one has a massacre In the land of the cowards and low intellect. I Hope this offends American because from the outside looking in that what it exactly looks like.

How come the NRA don't allow guns at their conventions?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Dear lord the absolute lack of knowledge of most of these people on here commenting on guns. You all do understand that more people in the US are killed by blunt objects then a rifle.

”Ban cancer!”

It's not the weapon that is the problem but the person who is the issue.

The hits keep coming.

Why is the person in The US so much more dangerous than the person in every other country? What could it be that makes the American person so much more likely to kill a large number of people in a short time than any other nationality?

People jumping off tall buildings isn’t uniquely Japanese. Civilians killing large numbers of other civilians with assault rifles is an American trademark at this sad point in history.

The best way to ‘look out for each other’ is to recommend not visiting the US. I occasionally hear people shouting in the street here but it’s always just drunks. If I heard people shouting in the street in America I would duck and run.

Criminals pull the triggers that commit murder.

Those triggers are attached to GUNS. Also, have you ever heard of anyone barricading themselves in a school and holding the police at bay while wielding an SUV?

Good points.

Any adult arguing that kids should be carrying firearms to school should be immediately disqualified from this or any discussion because they are clearly mentally ill.

"Country music stars distance themselves from NRA after school massacre"

They'll be back. They know who their fans are and where their own lifestyle support comes from...and we ARE talking about America...

*The NRA is a group that teaches people how to legally own, store, carry, and use a weapon to protect themselves, all within the rights of an American citizen as part of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution*

The NRA strictly support and enforce banning firearms (at their own meetings).

That tells you all you need to know about the level of intelligence and subservience of their members.

I though y’all were against oppression and being told what to do.

I would love to think this actually means a change of the way of thinking is happening and that is why even people traditionally in support of the NRA are distancing themselves, but it is much more likely just that they consider the annual convention too obviously inappropriate because of how close the school massacre is, both in time and distance.

Dear lord the absolute lack of knowledge of most of these people on here commenting on guns. You all do understand that more people in the US are killed by blunt objects then a rifle. Most gun deaths are by suicide and criminals such as gangs. Very few are by accidental shootings. This 18 year old had nothing on his back ground to prevent him from buying guns n ammo. He did have people saying he was a loose cannon and was reported for it but law enforcement did not act on it. If anyone has ever had to fill out the back ground check you would know what the process is.

If your clean on your criminal record then yes the process does not take that long to get a fire arm. Plus each state is different in the process off buying a gun. As far as gun ownership in US, it is down from about 45% in the 1980s to roughly 30% today. Yes it is absolutely sick what this evil person did. But the world see evil every day for thousands of years of humans killing each other with any kind of weapon. It's not the weapon that is the problem but the person who is the issue.

US currently has a sick society that needs fixed. Just like Japans high rate of suicide which I learned about living in Japan for several years. Where my mother n law lives one station down in Kugaiyama is a tall building the people jump off. Very sad. We need to stop fighting with each other and look out for each other. Stop blaming NRA or some other groups. If the congress wants to change the 2nd then they need to amend it. Thanks for listening so to speak.

Distancing from the criminal and domestic terrorist of the NRA is a very good sign that there is some hope..

Words do have meanings, it seems you are confused by them:

Criminals pull the triggers that commit murder.

Domestic terrorists burn, loot, riot, and commit murder, by any means possible,

including ramming people with a SUV.

The NRA is a group that teaches people how to legally own, store, carry, and use a weapon to protect themselves, all within the rights of an American citizen as part of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.

Any musical artist, politician, actor, actress, or celebrity that distances themselves from gun protection, usually employs someone else, to do it for them.
