The fame came 17 years too late for Son, who was the lead actress of the sequel to the legendary Winter Sonata, Summer Scent(2003).

My wife and I stumbled onto the South Korean dramedy "Be Strong, Geum-soon!" about ten years ago, and I have been hooked on SK shows and film ever since. There was a time when the French were leaders in film, and then for a while it was Japan, and briefly China, but lately South Korea has been a powerhouse of wonderful TV shows and films. Not everything that they make is great, but lots of it is.

Have been refraining from watching "Crash Landing on You," as it sounds very corny, but with all the good reviews, will give it a try.

"South Korean actress Son Ye Jin, who played the role of a wealthy heiress who lands in North Korea in a paragliding accident in smash hit drama "Crash Landing on You," said she is "overwhelmed" at the immense popularity the romantic comedy has generated in Japan."

Yet in South Korea, people are screaming death to Japan and burning Japanese flags.

"Overwhelmed?"

She shouldn't be.

Unlike some petty people out there, many Japanese don't let political nonsense get in the way of them enjoying other countries' cultures (even those whose government spites them).

Thus, while one country gleefully boycotts products from Japan, Japan embraces products and cultures from that country.

Lol - try buying a Samsung TV in Bic Camera or Yodabashi or anywhere in Japan for that matter. Or try buying a Kia or a Hyundai. Even the Samsung Galaxy store in Harajuku has removed the 'Samsung' name from its displays!

@oldman - and yet here you are, politicising an entertainment story.. so by your own logic you'd be one of those petty people?

few posted non-entertaining related review:

you need two hands to clap.

I saw group of japanese stepping on korean flags that were altered... cockroaches painted on all black lines of korean flag.

Korean tv channels do show japanese drama and animations. Mostly japanese animation.

Korea do embrace products and cultures from japan as well.

i blame both sides of governments and media creating anti-korea/japan.

also, its not all korean or japanese hate each others. Just a small group from both sides.

I couldn't get past the first episode. Silly plot and overacting. It's no wonder it's popular here. It's like so many J-dramas, in that respect.

Might give this a go. Need something lighter after "Dark". Which was awesome but, er, dark,
