"Home straight" is English, "home stretch" is a variant, common, so I hear, in various countries north of Mexico....

Why is it "crowded"?? I thought there were always the same number of nominations in each category........

U2 are going to end being like the Stones... Tired old "rockers" banging ou thte same tunes at this type of event or for middle aged old farts. And the Oscars ceremony (as well as other award ceremonies) are not my idea of fun.

Not long ago Best Picture noms were raised up to 10 (min 5, max 10).

Wakarimasen: Best Picture can have between 5 and 10 nominees. Best Animated Film also has a varying number of nominees depending on the number of eligible films released the previous year. But I think "crowded" refers more to the fact that there isn't an obvious front-runner expected to sweep the awards. A number of films are in a more or less dead heat, hence the "crowding".

I've seen every one of those movies and almost all of them were boring and dull. With the exception of wolf and maybe 12 years....how about nominating "her"....best movie I've seen in years and truly makes you think

Gravity has shown here in Japan. The others, not so much. Sigh. Why is Japan so far behind in releases? Will make the Oscars quite irrelevant.
