Well, after he is gone, I do not need to see the show any more.

turbosat...

No you are wrong, that is not the reason. If I were to spell out the true reason here for you, Japan Today would be correct to censor this comment.

Fadamor: An article in the Washington Post on the announcement commented that he was retiring because he had nothing new to say. It was all now repeating the same foolishness over and over and nothing seemed to be getting better.

I guess that's why I never lasted more than a few minutes watching him ...

Jon Stewart: Too smart for comedy. His talent is wasted.

Jon's bullsh*t meter is his biggest talent. President Stewart anyone? Hey, if a B-movie actor can do it, why not a wicked smart and funny guy from Jersey? (No, not jumbo.)

An article in the Washington Post on the announcement commented that he was retiring because he had nothing new to say. It was all now repeating the same foolishness over and over and nothing seemed to be getting better. For all his spot-on targeting of the political buffoonery (both Republican AND Democrat) and the constant lampooning of the news media's presumed self-importance, nothing has changed. After almost 20 years of skewering the media and the politicos, Jon couldn't see anything had gotten better. It's no wonder he's stepping down.

I can't imagine the show without him. Though a comedy/satire program only, the guy knew more what he was talking about and talked his Republican counter-parts under the table time and again, and showed the arse-hats at FOX for whom they were constantly.

Funny, Stewart was a lot on FNC and is very close to O'Reilly and remember Stewart is a comedian, No harm, No foul and he DOES ironically have a good relationship with other people at FNC despite his comedic satire rhetoric.

When I studied abroad in Japan back in '03, I had a friend who watched episodes on her PC. After a couple of episodes, I told her "I kinda liked that Kilborn guy better."

Years later, I've learned the errors of my ways. Hope Mr. Stewart gets to enjoy his time with family.

I think Jon Stewart wants to do something else in his entertainment career to avoid typecasting. As such, it's not a surprise he's stepping down from hosting The Daily Show later this year.

Well, this is certainly a downer. One of the great services The Daily Show has done under Jon Stewart's watch is take video of Fox News talking heads saying one thing then running video of the same people saying the opposite when it's to the advantage of the Republican Party. Stewart's reactions were priceless, but just showing these hypocrites up for the buffoons they are is beyond priceless. Too bad the message is lost on their regular viewers, the people who most need to see they're being duped into supporting an organization that is directly counter to their own best interests. Even my own super-conservative mom got a kick out of Stewart's regular exposure of this nonsense.

Something of a culture sock because this kind of political satire show did/does not exist in Japan (as far as I know). But US politics can get clownish.

Gokai,

I for one would LOVE to see a show like this in Japan about J-politics etc, THAT would be awesome, but I don't think powers that be would tolerate & the right wingers here would go nuts, sadly I don't think Japan is ready for satire(too bad), likely never will be!

As for the daily show, loved it & I aint a yank, just watch some bits on youtube every now & then, GREAT STUFF! & yes Jon Stewart kicked MAJOR a$$ making lots of repubs look...........well as they are, usually wrong LOL!!!!

The Daily Show is popular among the young adults and college crowd.

Ironically, Jon Stewart announces he's leaving just as disgraced TV news anchor Brian Williams is taking a leave - ironic that people has more faith in news from the satire entertainment comedian than the TV news anchor.

The Daily Show was there before Jon Stewart; it'll be there after Jon Stewart. Though it means Comedy Central is now losing both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Saving he is a Comic genius I believe is an understatement when you add in the debates he had with so called real media personnel. His knowledge and passion is beyond belief and whatever he decides to do, I can say he will always have my respect and support. No John Stewart, No Daily Show. It is just that simple. Thanks for the laughs and the insights John.

When I studied in the states from 2002-4, watching this program was a nightly dorm ritual. Everyone on the dorm floor gathered at the floor lounge to watch The Daily Show. It was difficult for me to follow, but everyone around me was laughing and laughing. Something of a culture sock because this kind of political satire show did/does not exist in Japan (as far as I know). But US politics can get clownish.
