I'm really looking forward to this one! Hope it's as good as the others.

Sorry, but the first episode was such garbage that I won't watch the other two. The screenplay strays far enough from the book that I wonder why didn't call it "Peter Jackson's Modern Hollywood-Version of What Was a Great Story Called 'The Hobbit'".
As wilth all movies, it puts star power over story power, fitting in big-name actor's characters into roles which didn't exist in the real story. Rather than see the movie, I'll treat myself by reading my well-worn books again.

I had no idea why Tauriel was inserted into the story, but was extremely grateful. More pretty girl elves please (kidding, kind of)

Like any storyteller, Peter Jackson, has made it a priority to lift words off the pages of text to give us a real human experience. I, for one, am eternally grateful and will gladly pay the ticket price to honor his work.
Lord of the Rings (Bu-Ray box set) takes a full day to watch as a whole. Looks like it will take a weekend now to complete the saga.
Can't wait to see it!!

I agree.
The first half of the first one was basically an annoying, bearded musical.
nath
As was the book.

Not sure why people would want to go see a movie that is the same as the book? What would be the point in that?

Sorry, but seriously..how many sword fights can one look at in a row? And it's not like anyone figures Bllbo, Gandallf or many of the other leads are going to kick the bucket. No real suspense, just a lot of waiting for the inevitable.

That's how it goes with most stories. Nobody watches Hamlet hoping for a surprise ending....

I think what I like about Tolkien books more than anything else is the sense of adventure they give me. It is hard to capture this exact feeling in a movie. His talk of history and the descriptions of where and what characters are doing are the most interesting while his dialogue not always so. It is difficult to recreate this without narrating the whole movie. I'm not as hard on the previous 2 movies as others have been. There are parts I really enjoyed and others, meh. But all in all, I'm glad Peter has made them.

I'm with Sangetsu. Jackson limited things in the trilogy, which worked. But for the Hobbit he just made garbage, at 48 frames per second.
Fadamor
Assuming he brings in $1 Billion on this movie as well, that's $2,314.81 per frame or $111,111.11 per second. Smart man!

But of course, if you want to see Jackon's work at its finest, look no further than his first movie, Bad Taste.
The exploding sheep were a-w-e-s-o-m-e.
Leaves every other movie he's made since literally in the muck. :-)
