Saw it last night with a bit f trepidation.... cannot for the life of me understand what critics are going on about! It is NO too long, The Props are of the same excellent standard as LOTRs - and the movie was a fantastic (typically P Jackson) roller coaster of action and humour) 8 out of 10 - and looking to build to an amaz-balls conclusion I'd suggest.

Some editing would be nice....

He seems like a genuine fan of the series and is probably living a dream by making the movies, so I'm not sold on the money angle. I'm looking forward to seeing it but LOTR 2 and 3 grew tiresome very quickly. I'm hoping that won't be a problem with this series but it sounds like the potential is there.

My wife and I saw it and enjoyed it immensely.

You must have seen the premier in NZ, since it isn't out yet.

I thought ROTK was a little slow, but so was the book. Looking forward to the Hobbit and I'll make my own mind up. I'll be interested to see how 48 frames/second works out. I know some critics don't like it, but I can't understand why. It's new I suppose.

Just see it for yourself and each individual should make the call and judge the movie by its merit and how they personally feel about the movie, if we listened to the media and the film critics all day and follow what they say, we'd really be in big trouble. The movie critics loved "13th Warrior" a few years back and I personally thought it sucked 13 times over.

Love the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Looking forward to the Hobbit.

The films so far have been terrible, i love the books and think highly of them and JR 's writing but the films are lousy.

The idea of bloating the Hobbit into three full feature films is ludicrous. But then i dont expect any films by Jackson to be at all decent. Hollywood is lousy at making films from books, especially good ones.

Read all Tolkein's books and seen all Jackson's movies. I think he could have possibly pulled 2 movies out of this by stretching it out but 3 is too much. Jackson's no god- King Kong needed a half hour edited out and early reviews are saying The Hobbit suffers from this padding too. Early reports had Jackson planning it as 1 movie but I assume 2 trips to NZ by 2 Hollywood execs with 2 big bags full of money convinced him otherwise.

How right you are! It will make lots of money, the one thing that represents today's idea of what culture has to be about in the first place.

Critics love to bitch and whine. No doubt it will be a great trilogy.

My wife told me I woke her up shouting "Hobbit" in the early hours.

You`re wife was lucky. Mine said I kept shouting something like, "My precious ... we hate Baggineses", during my sleep. She had no clue ...

Anyway, Im glad hes making it into 3 films. LoTR had a lof stuff cut out of it which was pretty important in the books and I think Jackson regretted that, which might be why he`s making Hobbit into a mega-mega-epic.

Truth be told regardless of critics impressions which I could care less about, I am looking forward to seeing it.

She's sick of my Tolkien in my sleep.

(groan) You shouldn't do that. Making puns is a bad hobbit.

My wife and I saw it and enjoyed it immensely.

I read the Hobbit and the Rings Trilogy back-to-back in college and practically flunked out as JR Tolkien competed with my studies (he easily won with no special effects).

Now it's 45 years later and I think I do need the 3D to keep my attention. I fell asleep in the other Peter Jackson film nearly 10 years ago, but think nodding off would be a near impossibility with these newest, amazing installments.

No question. Definitely worth going to see.

Why should Peter Jackson have to "defend" this trilogy? He is a fantastic director, and the critics should rather just not buy the tickets to this trilogy

The only way he'll have to defend it is if he Ewoks out on us.

"When the action cut suddenly from the latest mass sword fight to a silent cave inhabited by Andy Serkis’ creepy character Gollum, journalists at Tuesday’s press screening broke out in a rare smattering of applause."

Maybe that applauded as Gollum is the most awesome character in the Hobbit!!

"Precioussssss!"

It's been a long time since I've been to see a movie at a theatre. I think the last time was Fellowship of the Ring. It was too tense and long for a smoker to sit through. Now that I'm an EX-smoker, this sounds like the perfect chance to get back to the cinema.

Of course money played a part in this decision. LOTR was good, sure this will be visually good also. Hobbit story is a bit tamer than LOTR. Best Jackson movie was Bad Taste.......

Maybe I'll see this. I remember being kind of bored in Return Of The King.

I would be interesting to see the 48 fps.

I dont care if they need money, Ill gladly give it, Peter Jackson is nothing short of a fantastic director who absolutely did some stunning work on the LOTR trilogy. So yeah I cant wait for 3 more movies for the Hobbit. Bring it ON!

Normally thing get cut when transferring from book to movie, the main reason IMHO is, the studio! 3 movies is 3 times the money!
