I recommend everyone skip this film due to Chinese star Yifei Liu's vocal support of the Hong Kong Police during the HK protests. The #BoycottMulan movement will bring attention to the voices of people who are unhappy with the human rights violations committed by the HK Police.

Good for them, it is so exceptionally rare for Hollywood to produce an all Asian cast movie at all in the first place. Let us hope this movie is a rousing success.

People shouldn't care for the actors political views. If the movie's good, then it's good and people will watch it coz it's good. And if it's not, then it's not and people will skip it.

By the end of the weekend it will be ranked No.1 as the most pirated movie of the year.

Asian American?

What does that mean?

@oldman_13 of course it's rare, isn't Hollywood in America, a 60% white country, why would they make all 'asian' movies. It's like Bollywood making an all white movie, would you applaud that?

Yes mods I'm waiting for my comment to be censored for wrongthink! :)

Should i ever care at this point? I practically know the mulan story already from inside out by now. This will just ruin my childhood memories and i doubt my kid want to see a real live action one which seems a lot more complicated that the original version.

And I expected a lot more from disney than only caring about making money. They are ending the theaters industry and also ignoring all the human right violations that are happening in china. What a joke.

If the star is anti-HK protestor, then I’m anti-this movie

It's hard to support this movie because when I see the lead actor, all I think of is the repression of the young people of Hong Kong. I can't ignore the hypocrisy in this movie.

What, no Black actors? Racist!

Not at all.

1) The Memoir of a Geisha : All Asian cast. The only problem was that Chinese actresses played three Geisha leads, due to lack of English-speaking Japanese actresses.

2) The Last Samurai : Except for Tom Cruise, all other actors are Japanese.

3) The 47 Ronins : Save for Half-Chinese Keanu Reeves, all Japanese cast.

Liu Yifei has US citizenship, although she did not live in the US for long. Therefore I believe she voiced her support of the Hong Kong police force to boost the film's box office earning in China when the relationship between US and China is tense. This will damage its box office in HK or maybe over the world but it is a risk she are willing to take.

Ever heard of the real mulan #realmulan Agnes Chow , I'm boycotting that movie

HK has a big film industry of its own. Why doesn't it make a major production with an all-white cast?

What? No white actor with taped eye-lids? No tale of a white American going to a foreign land and kicking butt left and right while earning the admiration of the locals? What's American film coming to?

Its sad that the lead actress supported police crackdowns on people protesting for freedom, otherwise I would be advocating for this film, even against my disdain for Disney.

I believe it came out that in fact the director couldnt find japanese actresses that could act in a convincing manner - schooled as they were in the japanese style , ie, over acting, etc.

My favorite Asian actor growing up was David Caradine.
