The copyright on Peter Pan has expired in Japan, so you can buy the DVD for 300 yen at bargain stores. I saw it again a few years ago and the Native American scene in it is offensive and I would say indefensible. I think it should be kept, to show where we as a society are coming from, but thought of in the same way as Birth of a Nation, which celebrates the KKK, and Nazi propaganda showing Jews as rats.

Song of the South?

Soon, if you are looking for a decent movie, you will have to google “sexist, racist, freedom, homophobic, islamophobic, antisemetic content please”.

That is actually their goal, at least for the extremists.

Also, this is a good reminder to show my kids all these movies, same as how I watched them as a kid.

Radiohead?
When I was a kid 'Peter Pan' and 'Tinkerbell' were euphenisms for ninnies and sissies. A 'Peter Pan' is someone who never grows up - that can be taken in a positive (Mick Jagger, maybe) or negative (Donald Trump) manner. And we had a dirty joke about why he flies.

The “tar baby” was changed to a “marshmallow baby”.
The singing crows in “Dumbo”? When I was a kid I thought they were pretty cool. What did I know? I’m really glad that black musicians today confine themselves to chamber music.

just because it was acceptable at the time doesn’t mean it was right. Used to be acceptable to own people, but I don’t think anyone can argue that it was right.
The lead crow, coincidentally referred to as ‘Jim Crow’ internally, was vices by Cliff Edwards. A white man. It’s minstrel show stereotyping.

"We want more representation!"
"You didn't represent our culture strongly enough!"
"You represented us too stereotypically!"
It's almost like people just want to complain no matter what you do.

The word ‘redskin’ isn’t offensive to the vast majority of Indian Americans. Why are White Progressives so upset about it? The state of Oklahoma translates to redskin. Must the state name be changed as well? In many American Indian reservations school mascots are still called Redskins - and they don’t plan to change it. Sure, a small percentage of American Indians are activists against the word - but why knuckle under to thought police. It makes me chuckle how extreme the woke nutters have become. Controlling speech will not help with poverty and domestic abuse problems.

Cool.

Oh yes it is VERY offensive. Before Hitler's Nazis made lampshades from Jewish skin, Americans in the Plains made leather goods from Sioux skins. And the football team Washington Redskins is finally changing the team name. We don't say 'whiteskins' or 'blackskins', we say 'whites' and 'blacks'. And so it goes with other races and colors. And the 'red' people are Native Americans. 'Indian Americans' are descended from India people, a class of non-white Caucasians.
