Disney buys Lucasfilm; new 'Star Wars' film in 2015

Try to picture a Star Wars movie starting without the 20th Century Fox fanfare, sad.

Hope they let some real writer, write for star wars 7 and keep lucas for the visuals

How much more can they milk out of "Star Wars?" What is the next film going to be about? Han Solo as a grandfather?

No idea what directions Disney is going to take, but the IMO the only way to genuinely continue the saga would be to make films of the Thrawn Trilogy books (published in 1991-1993 by Timothy Zahn) which pick up shortly after Return of the Jedi with the Imperial Starfleet shattered but not destroyed, Luke starting a new line of Jedis, Han and Leia pregnant with twins, and Grand Admiral Thrawn, Emperor Palpatine's last surviving warlord, bent on destroying the New Republic. The books were great and hopefully any films made of them will be too, but it'll be hard to continue the iconic characters like Luke, Han, Leia, etc. with the actors having grown so much older since Return of the Jedi...

"Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity" - yes, rehashing old fairy tales is very unique. Where is this unparalleled creativity hiding? Pretty much all Disney seems to be doing nowadays is rereleasing 3D versions of their own films instead of making anything new.

Whatever they do it can't be worse than the prequel trilogy. George Lucas lost it a long time ago... even Return of the Jedi makes me cringe at times.

The problem with continuing the story is that the ending is so conclusive in Jedi.. I didn't really like the Timothy Zahn books. I'd rather see them make something based on Knights of the Old Republic. Can't see how anything interesting can happen directly after Jedi.

Amazing how Disney has evolved from one man with a dream to this.

The first “Star Wars” film came out in 1977, and there have been two trilogies—three films from 1977-1983 and three prequels from 1999-2005—while the brand has expanded into theme parks and a huge merchandising arm.

They where not prequels, star wars started on episode 4.

it would be nice if Disney came up with it's own ideas for a change instead of simply buying and appropriating the rights to other cultures stories....

I'm not too bothered what they do as long as it's not based on the spin-off merchandise books and comics. They couldn't manage anything worse than The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones.

So long as Lucas isn't writing the new script -- particularly the dialogue -- then it's all good, though I pray to the gods that Disney doesn't wreck it either.

Would have Preferred a Old Republic Era film, so that we would not have to deal with the Lucas baggage, but that's just me

It's not going to be a prequel, as it is titled Star Wars 7 it will take place after Revenge of the Jedi. No need to worry about Jar Jar Binks. Kind of half-looking forward to and half-dreading what Disney, or any one for that matter, might do to Star Wars.

They don't have to remain tied to the original storyline if they don't want to. IIRC, back when Lucas was first trying to market "Star Wars" to producers, he had nine outlines that followed a chronological order. Outline #4 became "Star Wars" (renamed "A New Hope" when it became obvious that more movies would be forthcoming). Outlines #5 and #6 became "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi", respectively. If Lucas still has outlines 7 - 9 laying around, Disney could take a look at them and decide whether to go in that direction, or chuck them out the window and go in a different direction. With all the third-party material that has come out since Star Wars 6, Disney has all sorts of ways they can go.

Actually, Star Wars is a THREE BOOK SERIES. Chapters 1,2,3, is book one. Chapters 4,5,6, is book two. Chapters 7,8,9, is Book Three! If you SEE the way this all goes, the big connection for all three books is Senator Palpetine! This Master of the Sith will show up again in the Third Book and will continue the story arc. It will be interesting what happens. Remember, Palpetine(Lord Sidious) has cloning technology, who says the one that was plunged down the Second Death Star was the REAL Lord Sidious? ''Everything has proceeded as I have foreseen'' was what he said. Another is ''My Design''. Lord Sidious has been manipulating events in the Star Wars Universe to a great degree. He needs to have the Rebel Alliance let down its guard so they can be manipulated and corrupted from within. When there is no enemies then people, in general, go back to old practices.

Well, if Iron Man 3 goes well (from the look of the trailers, it may well surpass expectations), it might be good. I would personally like to see them step out of their safety zone and use someone like Nolan to take the films into the dark side (he does well with reboots).

But yea, as long as they keep Lucas away from the important positions with a restraining order it should be fine. Kind of like Empire Strikes Back (rather than episode 1)

If it's anything like John Carter movie that came out last year. Star Wars is GONNNEEEEEEE !!!!

There are several more Star Wars novels and comics that can be easily adapted into new films. Disney have plenty of material to do countless films with the Rights. Here is a good list of published material in chronological order.

Big Fan of the first two films, and Return of the Jedi -- sans Ewoks -- tied up the arch nicely. So, Lucas didn't ruin my childhood. He ruined my adulthood. ;)

While I agree the prequels were a let down, that has nothing to do with the fact that a Star Wars movie beginning without the 20th Century Fox fanfare will be just weird.
