The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a central character in the film, has disputed the paper's depiction in “Richard Jewell,” saying it misrepresents their reporting on the story and their staff’s actions.

Oh the irony... The ones who misrepresented Richard Jewell are upset that they are being misrepresented...

Truth be told!

Those chatterboxes were so quick to run their motormouths and smear Richard Jewell during the 1996 Ego-Lympics. They ran a sickening jingoistic coverage of the whole nationalistic Election Year ego trip, and they would NOT shut up! I still have a horrible taste in my brain from it. And Clint Eastwood's depiction of Kathy Scruggs could be true after all. With all the disgusting commotion with those journalists acting half-cocked with only a minimum of info and being so eager for a target to blame, I wouldn't doubt it.
