Ebizo-Mao wedding gets average 18.7% viewer rating

Watching just the highlights made me feel ill. Such a shameful display of vanity. A 2 meter tall cake? 1000 guests? I do not even know 500 people. I think the price for this thing was around $6 million. Ridiculous!

@DaveAllTogether - You're so right and what makes it worse is that they probably didn't pay one Yen for it. All of the wedding companies involved in putting that wedding together knew that it was going to get that "viewer rating" and the added news coverage for days. What's sad is that the average girl/woman watching will go beyond their means to achieve anything resembling that disgusting display of vanity and not even realize that Ebizo/Mao didn't pay anything for it.

For the TV rating, a result varies from time to time because Japanese consumers'moods and economic condition. Japan was in the peak of the economic miracle in 1987, and a good shape in 2007 before the 2008 financial crisis occurred in Wall Street. 18.7% and 26% were good results for their wedding ceremony on NTV program.

Japan and other Asian countries have its culture and traditions centered around family values. A mother-and-daughter relationship is appreciated and maintained before and after marriage. On 9:13 pm, Japanese viewers paid more attention to the ceremony as persuasive explanation to the previous statement. A Lavish ceremony is not popular in the current situation.

the bride looks so...RETRO. Her hair looks like a pineapple, her dress looks like it was done in the 1960 and yes it looks ugly. And the funny thing is that she is trying to be a very modern trend setter. Well, the guy dated a lot of women, had fathered a child, he has outstanding 2M dollars debt or even more and they got the nerve to spend 6M dollars for the wedding. Don't you just love celebrity life.

They don't know 1000 people either but their combined business associates might. I'd wager 900 guests had to introduce themselves as XYZ Kaisha no Nantoka desu so both Ebizo and Mao could place them.

Yeah, unfortunately i think Mao will be sorely dissapointed later when he cheats on her... and there will be alot of pressure on Mao within the family to be a certain way being the wife of a kabuki star. I don't think Mao will like being suffocated like this.. good luck to her though anyway.

Like most geinoujin marriages, they will be dovorced in a few years. The event was publicity for the lucky tarentos that attended. Whatever happens to this couple, the attendee tarentos will always have a comment on some wide show.

I watched parts of it because it was blasted on every chanel. 18.7% ratings shows the low mentality of daytime TV viewers. Why should Japan be different from other countries in that regard.

This event just proved that the financial situation for TVs, celebrities and event management companies are in real worse situation. They would grab any opportunities just to make a big buck. Well timing is always important and this is not the good time for all lavish spending. Yeah, all these celebrities who flaunt their weddings are in danger of divorcing eventually. He dated several women and fathered a child? That's a big news! I thought Ebizu has some self-respect as he portray on his love and respect of Kabuki art, but he has not whatsoever. It should have been a good idea if he has not married at all, what for, he can date any women anyway. He said on the wedding if you had catched it "uwakiwa (paused) shimasen." I doubt it, now that he had mentioned it, wait he will do otherwise. Oh man! But this is the fact - celebrities whatever bad actions they had committed as far as they are real good-looking - will always have the support of non-good looking producers, fans and other morons out there. Celebrities lives and death will always be talked about no matter what!!!

Mao is just like living in a fantasy. I know for sure, she's like a high school girl giggling because she caught a good-looking man to flaunt about! Honeymoons have ending and reality will set in. I am not kidding!

It is only 'much anticipated by Nippon TV produces and staff. Why does the J Media try so hard to hype things up. It is pathetic.

The wedding was good! for one thing and that is to give hopes and dreams to others that fairy tales can come true. Which is not all bad. People need hope in world with little hope.
