Out curiosity I took a look at Emma’s IMDB page. She’s done nothing profound in her career

Internet hack claims 2-time academy award winner has done nothing profound in their acting career, and yet somehow expects to have the rest of their comment treated as if they know what they're talking about.

@FizzBit - clearly, you are unfamiliar with Ms. Thompson's work. If you saw The Children Act alone, you wouldn't boldly state that she's "done nothing profound". There's a reason why she's a two time Oscar winner and three time BAFTA Awards winner.

starpunk:

Looks, personality, obvious intelligence. I’m not a celeb groupie. And btw, the attraction is age-appropriate.

and I will fight you for Emma Thompson’s favours anytime.

To each their own. Is it her fame or her looks? I remember her on 'Cheers' and such way back in the early 90s. now her hair is white. Funny how time flies, isn't it?

I’ll pass on the granny porn.

Me too. This 'Mrs. Robinson' stuff is a bit warped. Chasing a 29 y/o when you're 62? Crazy. And the same goes for older men chasing younger women who are half their age. There comes a time in your life when you have to grow up and act/think your age. These May-December 'romances' aren't real.

Im more interested in the independent dystopian/Sci-Fi films. This is just more Hollywood garbage.

These are independent films, not even based in the US

FizzBit,

OK fair enough, let’s agree to differ. One thing, though - the movies aimed at female audiences (the dominant movie-going demographic back then) in the 30s, 40s and 50s were, in that sense, “chick movies” and the two melodramas you mentioned did fit into that category. But you’re quite right, they were almost always superior to their equivalents today.

Hello Bigyen,

I don’t know her politics.

yes the two movies I mentioned were melodramas, with much much better acting and writing, classy and intelligent, hardly chick movies.

FizzBit:

Assuming you’ve actually seen those two Emma Thompson movies, you have a weird idea of what a “chick movie” is. Especially when the two great old classics you mentioned are nevertheless both overheated melodrama “chick movies” of their day, no matter how good they were. It’s just Emma Thompson’s politics that you don’t like.

LOL Her Oscars would disagree with you.

What?

Sense and Sensibility  and Howards End?

Chick movies extraordinaire! Voted in by the wives of the Hollywood elite.

Gimmie a break. Id prefer watching Cat On A Hot Tin Roof with Elizabeth and Paul, or Raintree County with Elizabeth and Clift over and over before any of this mind dumbing drama.

Much Ado About Nothing (1993) - Emma Thomson was stunning! - A charming, beautiful & charismatic woman, at any age, both on and off

Right about that time she guested on 'Cheers' as 'children's performer' Nanny Gee. That was hilarious.

Emma Thompson seems like she's pushing the same agenda Madonna is pushing.

They talk about female empowerment, feminism, while at the same time seeking male attention and energy. All that female empowerment is making women never accept their age or life decisions. Always blame men for not meeting their high standards and demands.

A woman who's a 5 on the scale in western feminism country, she thinks she deserves a man that's a 8 or 9. When that doesn't happen, it's the Men's fault. No good men left apparently.

She and her husband moved to Venice and were given Italian citizenship but the moment the covid broke there she raced back to her house in Scotland. It's very hard for ordinary people to live in Venice.

She campaigns about the environment then takes private jets.

This is why money talks, when you have it you can do whatever you want, she has the right to be a hypocrite when you have cash, you can afford it.

Looks like an actress who had been a zero and wanted to get some headlines to revive her career. When all fells in the hollyweird industry the best thing to do is act in a movie showing a sex scene, that will get people to not only listen but want to watch. She is done!!

Oh luvvies.

Love her smile & laugh. The headline and article are to titillate interest in Emma Thompson and her continuing to create roles for herself at 62.

However, any titillation diminished considerably when additional topics of Bill Cosby and, … Lena Dunham were tagged on. (Will skip dinner now.)

Looking forward to Emma’s new film. -

Can you imagine the response if a man was swapped for Emma & a guy wanted to experience all he missed it wouldnt be "celebrated" it would be quickly labelled misogynistic....such is the weird world of today.....

@Derek Grebe

You, sir, are a man of taste and refinement and I will fight you for Emma Thompson’s favours anytime. For the ageist boors who dismiss Ms. Thompson as too old, whatever, you will learn discernment as you age. For those who dismiss her record and her talents as an actress, her achievements are on record, and on film. I shall watch this movie, and I will enjoy it. A lot.

Emma Thompson's net worth currently stands at 40million USD. Just to put things in perspective.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Then you will surely enjoy this movie I guess.

If she finds it fantastically hard to look at her own nude body imagine the trauma of a man forced to do so.

I wouldn't mind having a squint at Emma T in the buff. Very fine-looking woman, and has been for decades.

Oh nuts I thought it said Emma Watson.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

I don't see why the full nudity would be needed to make the point or the message other than it gets better press coverage.

"That's the great tragedy of the female body in the 20th and 21st centuries. And it's a narrative that we absolutely have to change."

This though is the greatest myths of modern times.

Come on folks, the female body and male body has been through period after period century after century of art etc.. depicting the "ideal" female or male body or look going all the way back to antiquity.

Egyptian Pharoah, Greek gods, Roman gods Emperors their wives, etc... All overly masculine or feminine exaggerating the parts seen at the time to be the "ideal" look for men or women.

Rare occasion I will agree completely with Zichi. Talented actress, sadly typical champagne sipping hypocrite on many issues.

The storyline about aging women seeking adventures that they shunned at an earlier age is one that is very common in real life. Divorcees and widows are eager to experience romantic fantasies while they still can.

As for America's Dad, tens of millions of American males grew up with Bill Cosby as Carole model. Unfortunately, his bad habits have been widely emulated, and date rape and drugging are still out of control.

"Probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do really -- and that's interesting in itself. That tells the whole story of my life as a woman surrounded by impossible demands and images of bodies," she said.

"That's the great tragedy of the female body in the 20th and 21st centuries. And it's a narrative that we absolutely have to change."

So this is a “if you can’t beat’em, join’em” story?

Im more interested in the independent dystopian/Sci-Fi films. This is just more Hollywood garbage.
