I recently switched from Sky Perfect satellite with a Netflix subscription, which was 50$ a month, to Netflix and U-Next, which is about ¥1000 cheaper a month. Lots of viewing options. Still less expensive than the $100 a month I was paying for satellite TV overseas.
There is a price on convenience, and if your shows are limited to a certain place that isn't convenient or too expensive, of course it will be pirated.
The same thing is going on in the gaming world, however, they see less piracy every year. How? Making a good product that everyone loves is worth buying. Same goes for movies, same for TV programs. How many new HBO subscribers joined while GoT started airing? Lots.

When these coglomerates won't allow one to watch the content when and where and how you want it, and they have this DRM thing, geoblocking, different pricing across different countries, etc to MAXIMISE profits and screw the consumer as much as they can.
And regarding losing money due to piracy, how are they losing money when many people who pirate it, wouldn't otherwise even be able to watch it. And how do they even measure these things?
Pure greed and fear mongering. And news: piracy has been around for as long as human existence. It isn't going anywhere.

People pirate not because they can’t afford it but because it’s the simplest option to access the content.
Netflix was successful because it was more convenient than piracy and had no drawbacks of ads and whatnot like tv. Then all the tv networks appeared and brought all the same issues as normal tv and wonder why subscriptions are down and piracy is up again.
Lack of convenience drives pirates. Take the hint networks

That the approach was doing more damage than helping was said from the very beginning, but the industry still went ahead and did it,
This is a strawman, the reason given is not that there are many options but that you need to pay for each of them to enjoy all of the shows the person is interested, if each of the streaming services had all the shows included people would still have a lot of options but there would be no need to pay for more than one or two of them.

It's the entertainment industry after all and they should just view it as people pay because they want to, not because they have to.
They should concentrate on the service they are providing rather than confusing their customer base into paying more for nothing.

Any art regardless of it's form should be offered for FREE to the general public after 20 years of it's publication, GREED is good but NOT when it comes to blackmailing your fans and supporters.
Give it up and watch your business grow.

I know if the entertainment industry didn't produce garbage I don't want to support, I would visit their legitimate sites more.
