Ex-Dempagumi.inc idol Moga Mogami deflects criticism of decision to have child out of wedlock

Japan, unfortunately, has an issue when it comes to putting celebrities and idols under a microscope. They can often be subjects of online comments that are more often than not, unfounded and overly critical.

“Fans” of these celebrities sometimes make negative comments on a celebrity’s social media account without knowing the full picture, and this gives way to speculation, gossiping, or in the worst case, cyberbullying.

One Japanese idol who was recently subject to speculation is Moga Mogami, a former member of the idol girl group, Dempagumi.inc. Mogami was active with the group from 2011 to 2017, and after her departure, she continued to be active in the entertainment industry and on social media.

On Nov 12, Mogami made an announcement online stating that she is pregnant. She has mentioned in the past that she wants a child; however, she also made her decision clear that she has no plans of getting married in the future.

While the announcement attracted congratulatory messages and support, it did not come without criticism. There were speculations that the child is the result of an affair and accusations saying that the child might become unhappy. Mogami dispelled these comments with a post on her Instagram account.

She writes, “I'm sure there are a lot of opinions out there, but I want to be pregnant and I'm very happy about it. And I am determined to do the best I can for my child. So, even if people say there is unhappiness, no one knows what the future holds, so I don't think there is one right answer.”

Mogami also goes on to say that some of the comments are “upsetting”, and defends herself with, “It's normal to have a hard time raising children, even if you're married. The first time is the hardest part of anything. If they tell you you can’t do something because you have no experience, then nothing will be possible. In fact, I have been told that I am a failure, even if I had both parents.”

At the end of her post, Mogami also talks about what she thinks the “right answer” for her is: “I think the ‘right answer’ for me is to pour a lot of love into the child that's born and raise him or her as best as I can.”

The post received over 30,000 likes and over a thousand comments in Japanese. But more than anything, with her post, Mogami expressed deep feelings of love and hope for her child -- feelings that just goes to show that despite all the negativity, she truly has what it takes to become a good mother.

Good for her. It's her life and none of the public's business.

@itsonlyrocknroll

Nowhere in the article does it say the father won't be involved. Raising a child with a mother and father has nothing to do with marriage. I know. I raised a daughter from when she was six, when I divorced her mother. But our daughter, who is now 33, still has a mother and father who participated, and continue to participate, in her life. And she's smart, and driven by her own sensibilities.

Moga Mogami's child will do just fine.

Who? From what group? lol

Anyways for true happiness, get off of social media and live your life. People are to wrapped up in how other people are living.

It can be seen as unconventional but it’s her life. In the end, it’s all about raising her child with endless love. A small advice: get out of social media.

Children need, in fact demand emotionally, the loving support of a family environment, essentially the diverse support of a Mother and Father, the sanctity of marriage in a modern-day society, plays second fiddle.

sorry what century are you from? if the child is raised with love, attention and support, it wouldnt matter if the child has 1 parent or 100 parents.

The phenomenon of out of marriage birth is less stigmatized in some culture than in others. I don't know if it still holds, but I read many years ago that 60% of the first-born children in Iceland are born out of wedlock. It does not mean that the people there value children any less.

Father probably married and will support from the background hopefully.

Many children in Japan are raised by mothers only anyway as the fathers are absent nearly all the time. Often fathers do not know the birthdates of their kids when I ask them.

It's none of the public's business and you can keep it out of their business by not saying anything at all. I think these celebrities are hooked on the attention but somehow expect that people are going to always see their point of view but many people's whole online existence is made up of hurling hate at any and everyone for any reason.

Ideally a child is better off with a mother and a father around but life isn't always what we'd like it to be, is it? Personally I wouldn't want to father a stranger's child but this is her decision (and the surrogate father's) and she will have to live with it. And sometimes one parent in a nuclear family is abusive and rotten.

As I said, life isn't always ice cream and balloons, is it?

To all the kind folks who negged me above, below are some of the WELL KNOWN problems children from single parent homes experience:

Poor academics, more drop out of high school, low self esteem & lack confidence, poor relations with other parent, stress, anxiety, increased issues with crime & drugs, much poorer economic prospects, boy idle\lethargic, girls with unwanted pregnancies etc etc etc.

Yes the above can\does occur in 2 parent homes but the above & more are MUCH more prevalent from kids from single parent homes, just the FACTS folks!!

I must enquire why did Moga Mogami associate the necessity, the physical need to be pregnant, with wanting a child?

An Introduction To Children’s Homes In Japan...

https://lightson-children.com/en/social-care/childrens-home/

27,300 approx. in Children’s Homes, numbers are 2016.......

It never occurred to Moga Mogami that if Moga Mogami wanted a child, take the opportunity to provide a home to at least one of the thousands that reside in care homes.

Of course, Moga Mogami would have to prove, Moga Mogami is capable, adhering the responsibilities of parenthood.

Which maybe explains why pregnancy, is Moga Mogami optimum route to achieving her goal.

From a personal point of view, I have been contemplating for some time, first fostering, then adoption. I cannot see the prospect of marriage even in the medium term.

My faith, I will not have a child outside of marriage.

So, I could offer a future for a child in care or neglect.

Not sure I am up to the task. I am however reaching the point I believe I could devote the time and commitment.

Upbringing, faith play important part in this sort of lifestyle. People may think I'm old fashioned but i wouldn't choose to have an out-of-wedlock child.

I know it's a trend these days to raise children regardless of marriage, but if the man loves you he will marry you and provide the necessary support within law and religous rules.

I agree, Seesaw7, old fashioned as it might appear, it is personal choice.

TrevorPeace, I did state .....

The omission in the article of any relevant follow up or inquiry presents only half the story.

I am not and never will opinionate or criticize single parent families.

The negativity is all of Moga Mogami own making.

Social Media takes no prisoners.

What on earth motivated Moga Mogami to even bring such a personnel/private matters of marriage/child raising is well, remarkedly naïve.

The term Mother and Father, also define the term attention and support in the context of your own childhood.

That is a fair question.

What century am I from?

The century that I was raised in, always will be my own experience of childhood. family, and fortunately my Mother and Father love a support with all the ups and down of marriage

The fact or matter is undefinable.

What is clear this story, nothing more than a social media attempt at taking the importance of child bearing to leveraging publicity, promoting/boosting Moga Mogami media profile.

foreignbrotherhoodarmy, you have answered your own question.

I think you need to search single parents & child raising, the stats show that there are plenty of problems & issues with kids raised in single parent homes & they very often end up with a LOT of problems once they become adults. The results overall are NOT good at all.

A loving home with 2 parents is WAY WAY WAY WAY better than a single parent environment.

As to the article I have no idea why its even here LOL & yeah this young lady would be MUCH better staying off social media which messes most everyone to some extent!

This whole decision is based on, assuming below an actual representation of Moga Mogami assumptions, a former member of the idol girl group, Dempagumi. own words.

“I'm sure there are a lot of opinions out there, but I want to be pregnant and I'm very happy about it. And I am determined to do the best I can for my child. So, even if people say there is unhappiness, no one knows what the future holds, so I don't think there is one right answer.”

“It's normal to have a hard time raising children, even if you're married. The first time is the hardest part of anything. If they tell you, you can’t do something because you have no experience, then nothing will be possible. In fact, I have been told that I am a failure, even if I had both parents.”

Clearly, Moga Mogami, doesn’t.

Children need, in fact demand emotionally, the loving support of a family environment, essentially the diverse support of a Mother and Father, the sanctity of marriage in a modern-day society, plays second fiddle.

The omission in the article of any relevant follow up or inquiry presents only half the story.

I feel that this is more the need to generate publicity, focusing on one person, Moga Mogami, a former member of the idol girl group, Dempagumi

If of Moga Mogami a former member of the idol girl group, Dempagumi naivety believes quote …

“I think the ‘right answer’ for me is to pour a lot of love into the child that's born and raise him or her as best as I can.”

Should have thought of a pet.
