Popular hip hop group Exile walked away with Best Artist of the Year award at Sunday's Billboard Japan Music Awards, held at Billboard Live Tokyo at Tokyo Midtown.
The group also won the Best Hip Hop Artist of the year award through their "Exile Ballad Best" album, which remained a chart topper for the year. Group leader Hiro, 40, thanked the audience, saying, "We're going to do a stadium tour this year, and are definitely thinking of other big things too. Looking forward to this year."

What's that award? Cash? (no), Certificate? Miniature Trophy, i guess.

how many groups could be in this award show. only 3 or 4? Exile has like 30 members now. of course they won. by sure numbers. rewarding crap. got to love it.

no wonder japan is referred to the Galapagos Islands of the marketing world. only in such a place could such talentless posers be rewarded for their lame brand of "entertainment". their tough-boy image is utterly ridiculous. way to go boys!

first time i`ve heard of an artist winning an award for a "best of" album.

Before you all judge, give them a listen. Atsushi and Takahiro are actually REAL, good singers. Melodies are spot on and the harmonies are impeccable, even live. Funny though that they are more known for the 14 guys that dance that are not actually on the album. Usually the Japan music scene puts more emphasis on style rather than substance, but I think in this case, they may have gotten the best of both worlds. Way to go EXILE!

I have listened to Exile, oh my god they SUCK! The music is just weak and dumb, there is no need to dance at all. Dancing is for girls. They look like crap. All their songs sound the same; it is all whining and crying. The same goes to 99.9% of japanese music. It is unlistenable!
JapaHaYn
Guess they're just not for you then hellhound. You are entitled to your opinion. I think the same could be said about American R&B these days. Just for the record, what bands are "listenable" to you?
Jkanda
Was it Exile who sang the Don Quixote Store's song?
dolphingirl
Okay, they are not the greatest band but some of their music is decent and most of the guys are hot!! So if I had to watch any Japanese musicians perform, they would be my number one choice.
Legit
Is Exile a male or female group? They look like girls to me.

JapaHaYn worked in the industry for years, and I find it a joke what Japanese people think are "really good." Most talent here are brainless voices who have no understanding of what they are singing. In 99% of the cases they got their career in a backroom deal. Not based on their voice. As for the dancing etc. Copied from Korea who have alot of talent.

Teaching kids what "EXILE" means in Japanese is funny

They are also scheduled to win next year...
DeepAir65
what muppet puts this on the same day as the Grammys?
Exile - who?
LoveUSA
sorry but for many people Grammys are irrelevant
tmarie
Okay, decent voices but why the heck do you need a 40 year old dance - and 13 others to dance around looking like idiots?? Get rid of the dancers - though the founder is one of them - and keep all that money to yourself instead of sharing! Duh!!
BurakuminDes
I've been told at least a couple of them have African-American bloodlines, so at least they have some R&B credibility in that sense. And the girls here love 'em.
DenDon
hahahahaha fugazi it aint

BurakuminDes:
haha, well im black and the guys you mean are just backup dancers. i thought they were decent but they still mix in a lot of that random Engrish in their songs, just like the rest of the J-crap.
No real talent here just superb marketing.
