Some in the TV industry fear that the alleged fabrication may make people lose trust in broadcasters at a time when an increasing number of people, particularly youths, are said to be turning away from TV amid the rise of the internet and social networking services.

Yeah well you deserve it! And it isnt the first program here to have problems like this either.

NHK made up paranormal stories years ago, as part of a Halloween TV special, and claimed them as true. One story in particular was a popular scare story we told as kids!

None of these stations are trustworthy.

Just more fraud in Japan. The Japanese traditional culture of honour and respect is called, bushido. However, in recent decades it has become, bullshido.

The wife and I often watch this show, but I started to get a little suspicious of some f the so called festivals that they were able to find. Especially the ones in mostly Thailand, Laos, Cambodia. You could see the way the locals were acting that this was not a regular event.

But as for losing trust in T.V., if anybody believes anything they see now they must be truly naive or gullible.

Filtering everything through Japanese, even when the "documentary" host is perfectly fluent in the local language, in lieu of simply using subtitles, always chaps my hide.

And the foreigners' dubbed voices always have that deep imbecilic voice to them.

It's propaganda on the level of stuff you would see in the 1950's. But it's lapped up. What gives? The free world is still waiting for Japan...

Okubo said a company in charge of coordinating overseas shooting for the variety show was involved in organizing some of the festivals, proposing festival projects or paying prize money from the shooting expenses budget.

In other words, set up a caricature, or stereotype, of foreigners for the 'viewing pleasure' of the Japanese masses...

More to this than meets the eye.

In other words, set up a caricature, or stereotype, of foreigners for the 'viewing pleasure' of the Japanese masses...

This! I've never seen a segment on J-TV that doesn't more or less hew to this sickening dynamic, even on NHK. I'd say it goes beyond facilitating mindless viewing pleasure though. It also reinforces an us vs. them view of the world. Filtering everything through Japanese, even when the "documentary" host is perfectly fluent in the local language, in lieu of simply using subtitles, always chaps my hide.

The programs and thus the viewers ultimately have no real interest in what people around the world have to say, however often such tripe airs. They want the rich cultures and traditions of the world translated and reduced into bland palliative snippets, used for temporary uplift or, worse, to maintain an ignorant sense of superiority over lesser peoples and the otherness of the outside world.

"Producers tend to think news reports and variety shows are different but for the viewers, they are both the same TV broadcast."

A salient fact which has kept the LDP in power for most of the last 70 years. Joseph Goebbels would love Japanese TV.

I’ve lived here for nearly twenty years and stopped watching Japanese TV in the first month I was here. Therefore, I couldn’t give two hoots about this report.

Hahaha! Fabrication?? Tell me it ain't true!!

The "Baka Box" as i call it just got even dumber. Throw away your TV and do yourself a favour!

I'm shocked, shocked, to larn that something on Japanese TV is fabricated.

The next thing, you'll be telling me that a plate of generic food isn't so delicious that it makes grown men shout out loud in quasi-orgasmic bliss, or that one overweight man slapping another man (perhaps with a bad haircut or wonky teeth) isn't pants-wettingly hysterical.

Propaganda, the outside world is crude and simple, even if their houses are bigger better and food cheeper, have free time....but look they have big noses and can't speek Japanese. Fu,fu,fu they are so funny.

"We're in an era when even a lie regarded as acceptable in the (TV) industry leads to ruining viewers' trust in us,"

Yea, its ridiculous how getting caught lying to others would cause them to not believe you.

"We're in an era when even a lie regarded as acceptable in the (TV) industry leads to ruining viewers' trust in us,"

Probably, the time when telling lies did not ruin viewers's trust in the TV industry was the one when viewers didn't have a way to know they were telling lies. But now it's pretty easy to find and contrast information. Looks like they are ok with telling lies as long as people people don't find out. And that's the same with other sectors we are lately hearing about falsifying/forging data.

"TV watchdog the Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization has also demanded Nippon TV report on the issue."

I surprised to hear there is such an organization.

Totally!

NHK made up paranormal stories years ago, as part of a Halloween TV special, and claimed them as true. One story in particular was a popular scare story we told as kids!

I also recall Abe Shinzo trying to force NHK producers to make up something too, in relation to the sex slaves during the war.

"a lie regarded as acceptable in the (TV) industry"

So, the TV industry is immoral.

Why is so much garbage coming out lately?

It is all garbage. NHK of course is the worse. Only sports on TV can be trusted, but even that

is suspect like with Sumo matches being thrown.

Finally some transperacy of exactly where my NHK subscription goes towards. That's if I paid it. If I want to watch fantasy, HBO do a far more believeable version.

Next they will be telling us that those programmes where the presenter wanders around a small town and bumps into random people on the street have been set up beforehand.

Is anyone really surprised by this? These programmes are supposed to be entertainment, not factual.

My kids like this show and variety programs in general so our tv gets left on this channel, the Yomiuri one.

You may think I am splitting hairs but it is noticably the worst channel. It pushes the over-excited celeb schtick even harder than the others, as Aly says to create some happy little Yomiuri utopia where people don't ask questions and tick the LDP box.

(I constantly tell my kids that tv is full of yarase and made up stories)

TV stations actually using their imagination to create original content? Say it isn't so!!!!!

Who allows garbage on the shows? That’s the person they should fire. Making fun of viewers makes the channel look cheap, untrustworthy. Why is so much garbage coming out lately?
