So - someone rents the theatre and gives all the tickets to women. Fine. Hope they have a good time.

I don't see the issue, since this is a non-govt theatre.

It's not a private party, It's a promotion sponsored by the theater. There in lies the problem; a business is discriminating against or for customers based on gender because they can. Also It's not a preferential design like a ladies' night at a bar, it's restrictive like whites only at 1950's restaurant in ,ironically, a southern state.

Oh nooo. Men are being oppressed, like they have throughout history. If only they could rise up and rid themselves of the shackles of emasculation like they did when the recent Ghostbusters film was released. How they raged and howled at the female stars. Man's finest hour in the endless struggle against female domination.

Can't wait to see the movie, btw. Girls night out, or not.

Equality only when it suits you eh, not good! Glad the theatres are being called out on this, rightfully so

No this issue is more about safety of vulnerable people from a sector of society that is known for violence against a vulnerable sector, then discrimination. Out of the whole state of Texas surely society can allow one session for these people to enjoy a night out without being fearful.

If there's onething boys on the Internet love, it's whinging about how unfair it is that they can't impose themselves on any woman they want, all the time.

You're welcome to tag along to the next hen night out, if you feel excluded, male strippers club mandatory!

I remember the days of Lynda Carter. She still looks great.

The Original Wing : I talking about victims who are traumatise by domestic violence. This is usually perpetrated on women by Men.

I fail to see how limiting a few shows to only women is oppressive towards any other group. There are plenty of theatres in Austin. Others are showing the film - there are 25+ other places in Austin showing the film with 3-5 showings a day.

I don't see how this limitation harms anyone and it will make some people very happy. Relax.

If you don't like it, take your business elsewhere.

After all, how many clubs/hotels in Japan won't allow gaijin inside?

yeah but if it was only a few shows for men only can you imagine the uproar, pretty simple really.

I can't stop myself to tease the guys who complain.  Just imagine that we could hang out opposite the theatre and watch all those costumed fans leaving after the movie. "oh! Hey! yah!  maybe we can benefit from letting our partners half a great night out on the town together.  Think of exclusive poker night and strip clubs that have and will exist endlessly. And let us be reminded of those midnight cult showings of the rocky horror show.  I rest my case. p.s.  i'd like to be the papa babysitter in the baby booth just out of curiosity ...

The Guardian's write-up of this film completely trashes it. Written by men, and full of male actors, the plot of the movie is thin and implausible even for a superhero flick. Sounds like this is one movie women should not be taking a stand on. But then, what does the Guardian know?

theFu - I fail to see how limiting a few shows to only women is oppressive towards any other group.

You missed the point completely. If a theater has "women only" showings then they should be able to have "men only" showings, also.

No one seems to be trying to prevent "women only" shows. What's good for the goose (female) is good for the gander (male).
