is this tiresome pc nanny state garbage going to extend to all fields?

Are song composers going to have to throw in lines about minorities, LGBTQ, and 'the vast majority of muslims'?

Are novelists going to be forced to load their stories with similar pc inanities??

Equality, tolerance and respect are such terrifying concepts to a few people.

"As Time's Up focuses on safety, equity and dignity, we need to be looking to 2019 and 2020 for the major changes where Time's Up exerts its influence and we see a shift in hiring practices for the first time," Smith said. "Until hiring changes, these numbers will not move."

So lets double down on the dismal results of forcing women in front of the camera and behind it. Look what happened to Scandinavian countries that made gender equity programs; women actually gravitated towards their traditional roles and away from the STEM studies they were supposed to join.

Kathleen Kennedy so destroyed the Star Wars franchise that Disney wants her out. Trouble is, Hollywood firing a woman would be suicide in this ridiculous PC climate.

Interesting bit from the article

the researchers found that in more gender equal countries, overall life satisfaction was higher.

I'd say that's quite important, wouldn't you? Unless some people believe women should stick to "traditional roles" whatever they might be...

For some reason, I can't access that site, so I'll have to take your word for it. Personally, I think the latest installments have been splendid entertainment and most of the naysayers are angry males, incels or broflakes who are insecure about their place in the world.

As for PC, I love Fintan O' Toole's quote

We have now reached the point where every goon with a grievance, every bitter bigot, merely has to place the prefix, 'I know this is not politically correct, but...' in front of the usual string of insults in order to be not just safe from criticism, but actually a card, a lad, even a hero. Conversely, to talk about poverty and inequality, to draw attention to the reality that discrimination and injustice are still facts of life, is to commit the sin of political correctness. Anti-PC has become the latest cover for creeps. It is a godsend for every curmudgeon and crank, from fascists to the merely smug.

Some people don't want equality, as they know it will highlight their own shortcomings when they have competition for work, status etc.

Seeing that the movie industry in question is in the U.S. here are some figures (a few major demographic segments) from the U.S. census and other sources to help Hollywood include characters that would more truly represent U.S. society as it really is.

Gender:

Female 51

Male 49

Race:

White 60%

Latino 18

Black 13

Asian 6

Other: 3

Religion:

Christian 69

Unaffiliated 24

Judaism 2

Islam 1

Buddhism 1

Hinduism 1

Other religions 1

Unnkown 1

Political voting:

Democrat 48

Republican 46

Other 6

Sexuality:

Straight 97

LGBTQ 3

Real diversity would reflect society as it really is but I don't think that either Hollywood or the social justice warriors care about that.

Equality of opportunity, yes. Equality of outcome is not possible except through coercion.

Absolutely important. Also important to point out women in these countries have decidedly proven that it is traditional roles that they seek and are happiest in.

I didn't think it would be necessary to point out the obvious conclusion of the study.

More Hollywood crap...

OMG, politics dictating art. A nightmare. The death of art.

OMG, politics dictating art. A nightmare. The death of art.

You do realise, of course, that the great masters like Michaelangelo and Da Vinci were commissioned by politicians and esp. the church (in it's day the most powerful political force on earth)?

Ok, so Hollywood output's hardly as lofty and mesmerising as David, for example but politics and art have been intertwined for centuries.

Gay artists had to hide and often deny their sexuality, just as women had to hide their gender (George Eliot).

Now we're more visible and here to stay, so you can either accept it or switch off.

Sure, artists have been commussioned through the ages. Nothing wrong with that. No one dictated artistic content to michelangelo or leonardo. That came with the USSR and the Third Reich.

Get an artist to back you up with your desire for quotas and political correctness in art. You cant.

Star wars died, 80s is best ones, watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhBM6G0J-Hg

@cochise I agree. To much ideology is no good, watch the YouTube link above, it explains why StarWars damaged

Now we're more visible and here to stay, so you can either accept it or switch off.

Finally, after all those years of being blacklisted by Hollywood and the theater.

Congratulations! Finally the shakles are off!

Now terminator is damaged too, did you see the new images from the new film that came out yesterday?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

If there's roles in the film for a diverse cast, then by all means add them. If you shoehorn them in just to meet this arbitrary 'add five' rule, then it will wind up just as bad as if they had not been there at all, or even worse, because suddenly you have a bunch of characters that don't fit the film you're watching.

@poopy, LOL.

No one dictated artistic content to michelangelo or leonardo.

Apart from the Medicis and the RCC.

That came with the USSR and the Third Reich. Get an artist to back you up with your desire for quotas and political correctness in art. You cant.

Ah, the Godwinning. I can do that, too.

If you want your films straight, white and male, I'm sure Birth of a Nation is still available...

as for SJWs, I LOVE Jordan Peterson's quote;

"Just like the TERRORISTS in the Middle East surround their hideouts with women and children so if you bomb the hideout you kill these innocent people.

The 'Social Justice Warrior' types do exactly the same thing. They find a hypothetically vulnerable group (women in this case) and they use them as a protective shield while they move incrementally forward. If you object, suddenly you're picking on the poor, vulnerable people."

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Kenji Fujimori, Good link! I agree. A sad state of affairs.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Poopy, you nailed the SJW strategy exactly.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

straight out of the leninist/ stalinist playbook.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The most popular movies are still largely the domain of white, straight, able-bodied men, both in front of the camera and behind.

That's not surprising it reflects real life - the bulk of the worlds innovation, adventure sports, daredevil war adventures etc come from straight white males despite all the negativity coming from feminists and SJW's.
