Is 14 million a lot of people for a TV program? The US has 330 million. Just curious.

That would be the 54th most watched non-sports TV program in the history of the USA.

See how hard work and originality can render one largely ignored until you announce you're leaving.

Goodbye, Dave. Except for Johnny Carson, there was none better.

Also, remember--this is at 11:30 pm, so 14 million is a good number (usually it is something like 3 to 4 million viewers).

Great show to end with.

What about Jay Leno? Exactly, exactly!

Final Letterman show draws record 14 million viewers

Wednesday’s show averaged 13.76 million viewers, its largest audience since February 1994, when it followed CBS’s primetime coverage of the Winter Olympics in Norway, the television network said.

Nice, but it doesn't seem to be a "record":

The show's highest rated episode was on February 23, 1994, after the 1994 Winter Olympics (78.8 million) with 15 million viewers.

So if the show in 1994 drew a larger audience, how is this show's viewer count a "record"?

Craig Ferguson was funny as could be but he quit after just 10 years. Will miss David Letterman too.

Was he a comedian? Really? I never really found him funny.

I never saw this fellow t. v. show, saw him do his bit once and decided he was Not much funnier than lesser known stand-up comics. p.s. with all that loot a good Dentist would be the order of the day.

When he was doing his 12:30 am show on NBC, it was hilarious. It was inventive and irreverent. He could get away with a lot more there than he ever tried on his 11:30 pm CBS show.

Too bad he is ending his show in style while I am away from home.

I always compared David Letterman on the East to Jay Reno on the West on jokes. I think Letterman had a dry hidden punch in his jokes that were too sophisticated unlike Jay Reno who was more straight forward to general audience. .Difference in culture between the East and the West? I will never know.

congratulations to his retirement! We will miss him
