Tokyo will host "Chasing The Sun: Oasis 1993 – 1997," an exhibition of rare and iconic photographs, artifacts and memorabilia from the early years of Oasis, one of the most significant bands to emerge from the UK in the past two decades.
"Chasing The Sun" chronicles the band's supercharged journey from a Manchester rehearsal studio to international rock stardom, via three landmark albums – “Definitely Maybe”, “(What's The Story) Morning Glory”, and “Be Here Now” - and many legendary gigs, from London's 100 Club to Glastonbury Festival to their era-defining two night stand at Knebworth House.
The exhibition, which is coming to Japan in October, includes previously unseen images from the photographers who had fly-on-the-wall access to the band. The exhibition will also display some of the iconic instruments played on the early albums (lent by the band members themselves), vintage merchandise, artifacts from the album sleeves. As special content for Japanese exhibition, there will be photos taken by Mitch Ikeda who accompanied the band from the very first Japan tour, plus rarely seen live performance footage of the 1994 Shibuya Club Quattro show. All photography and limited edition Oasis merchandise will be available for purchase.
Opening 20 years to the day since the release of their debut single "Supersonic" (released April 11, 1994), "Chasing The Sun: Oasis 1993 - 1997" is the first ever exhibition dedicated entirely to Oasis.
The exhibition is happening in conjunction with the new "Chasing The Sun" album reissues, which rolled out with the release of “Definitely Maybe” on May 14, followed by “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?” on Sept 24. Both titles are available on standard CD & digital download, Special Edition 3 x CD & digital download, 12” vinyl LP (with digital download bundle of all bonus CD content), & Deluxe Box Set (including LP, Deluxe CD, exclusive 7” & merchandise).

Yeah, its a bit ridiculous to call Oasis a one hit wonder.
I kind of hope somebody hosts a Blur exhibition across the street and trouble breaks out. Just because it would be neat.

i was studying for a year in England when they hit it really big (1995) and loved their music as a result. so i'm a bit biased when i say that they are no one in heck a one-hit-wonder. and if you hate the band because of their drug use then you should stop listening to almost all rock bands from the 1960s to the present day. maybe church music is more up your alley?

Except that just that one album alone had a few hits on it in addition to Wonderwall and their next album, though not as succesful, also had more than one hit.
I`m not an Oasis fan and not commenting on the quality of their work, but anybody who had a pulse in the mid-late 90s knows that Oasis were massive for several years and not a one-hit wonder band.

Strangerland, if you scroll up you'll see that they were a one-hit wonder twenty two times. In the same way that the Beatles were a one-hit wonder thirty seven times. Good band in their day, the mid-nineties wouldn't have been the same without them. Oasis that is, not the Beatles.

Folks the reason there will be an Oasis event here is simple they are popular here AND you can sell some swag while you can eyeball some guitars & pics, its all business

Huh. I mean, I like some of their songs and all, but... huh. Could have been better uses of time spent, but whatever, those who have been waiting for an exhibit to finally happen now get their day. Congrats. At least these guys wrote and sang their own songs.

First ever ? Ya - no kidding. I can't believe there is one to begin with. Are they really that celebrated in Japan? I like a few of their songs but they hardly seem worthy of this kind of thing unless it's in England. If this is a success I guess we can look forward to the long awaited Chumbawumba retrospective

Actually, not only would have the mid-90s have not been the same, but much of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90, and so on, wouldn't have been quite the same musically were it not for the Beatles. Well, at least for much that was worth listening to.

They even made a video for it... and all it ended up being was a lame announcement for exhibition. WELL WOOPTY DOO. Not a tour - not news!

Wow, watered down knock-off band that does not even rate a trivia question. What is next, a show for Milli Vanilli? No doubt these kids were popular in England but I think I read one of the reason the Scots wanted to leave the UK was Oasis.

Hate is too strong a word - I just don't understand why they would make an exhibition for two guys who were so interested in doing crack they couldn't make any good music. I'm more than willing to forgive junkies who actually made good music. For example, I love me some old Rolling Stones. But the one-hit-wonder Oasis? Better left forgotten, as the only other thing to remember besides their one hit is the fact that they were junkies.
