The ’*Comics’ industry abroad died a slow death. *Non-payers consumed ‘digital’ alternatives and pulp died. *Traditional collectors pass on the political cultures overtaking all entertainment & media.* Monopolized distribution choked comic sellers with publishers pushing current storylines that don’t sell subscriptions.- RIP comic shops.

The ‘Manga’ industry thrives here and has growing interest abroad. Although there are many ‘tropes’, there is less ‘neo-political’ agenda or, it’s presented as light-hearted, alternative views of cultural themes.

Still, as the article states, individual manga artists struggle to survive on low pay with the bulk of profit goes to publishers. Crowd-funding and independent publishing and customer-direct distribution is working for some abroad. It may be time for some of these artists to pursue their own fortunes before a lifetime of servitude.
