Tomomi Itano, who is a former AKB48 member and known as Tomochin by her fans, is going to perform for the first time in the U.S. very soon at the J-POP SUMMIT FESTIVAL 2014 held in San Francisco.

She is invited to perform as an "honorable guest".

J-POP SUMMIT FESTIVAL 2014 is one of the biggest J-Pop themed festivals in the U.S. and started in San Fransisco in 2009. This year, it will take place on July 19 and 20 and will introduce a lot about Japanese music, movie, art, fashion, gaming, anime, food and so on.

Other than Tomochin, so far it was announced that May'n (singer), TOKYO GIRLS' STYLE (idol group), Daichi (human beat boxer) and KEI (official Hatsune Miku illustrator) will perform.

Also, Japan Film Festival of San Francisco and the first Ramen festival in Northern California will be held at the J-POP SUMMIT FESTIVAL 2014.

So happy to see Tomochin come to the US, even if I can't be there for it! Ganbatte Tomochin!

All the otakus in SF will certainly appreciate this.

She's such a cutie. But they should get BabyMetal instead !

Not what Japan should be showcasing. I remember coming to Japan in the late nineties and young people immediately saying "Spice Girls!"when I mentioned I was from the UK. I'm hardly the patriotic type but that did make me cringe.

I believe truly that Japan should be more than happy to have Tomochin come over for the festival. It's nice to see AKB's ex-members spread their wings, and why not? Japan has sent weirder and more different singers than her (like KPP last year). Once again, the readers of Japan Today act in a very predictable AKB-bashing way and populate these message boards with negative comments. But that's to be expected when you are as beautiful and as talented as Tomochin is and were part of Japan's biggest musical export ever, everybody is just jealous that they can't do the same in their own lives. I am proud of Tomochin coming to America, especially after watching the English interview she gave where she tried really hard to learn English and speak about her love of America. Plus she's adorable. My only complaint about her coming is that she didn't bring the rest of her ex-team with her from AKB.

They will be in tour in the US with Lady Gaga. Anyway, not a fan of AKB or BabyMetal. I think Japan has a lot of better music to offer than this, like Bump of Chicken.

Good for her. as much as i am not huge fan of the music, the whole schtick surrpounding AKB (and their "graduates") as well as BabyMetal and Chubbiness and all theother manufactured groups is typically Japanese and is becoming more and more popular around the world. who knows, maybe Japan was ahead of the world in this regard?
