Gackt to hold concert just for men

Singer Gackt, 36, will hold his first concert exclusively for men at Kawasaki's Club Citta on Sunday night. The show will take place under strict guard, with a special investigation room to ensure no women enter, not even staff.

Gackt is raising the banner against recent popular terms such as "herbivore men" and "carnivore women," and explained, "There's no good in men having a weak spirit, especially for women, so I am going to rally them."

Gackt's first male-only live show will be a place for attendees to celebrate "the way of the man," the singer said.

A special investigation room will be set up for male staff members to catch any unsuspecting female fans who might try their hand at cross dressing and attempt to sneak into the show. Concertgoers may be asked to show ID and if any women are spotted, they will be escorted out.

We need more real men but I think his cause is a lost cause. Too many men lost their manhood (too many gays).

LoveUSA, i know many very manly gay blokes. Not all are like John Inman.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is this really the guy to lead men in their quest to regain “the way of the man?"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this whole thing sounds really gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). shouldn't he be encouraging men to hook up immediately with readily available women?!? men who plan to go, keep your pants up and your rears covered from those special investigators...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

and no offense taken. if you're into that, though, be sure to get your ticket early for the the show!

stevecpfc at 05:34 AM JST - 20th March LoveUSA, i know many very manly gay blokes

I'll bet you do steve.

If he was any sort of a man, he would invite only hot chicks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He's been called Japan's version of David Bowie. I'm not sure if he's an expert on manliness though - when you wear lipstick you lose that credibility.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least he's trying to do something about this trend of herbivorous men, even if it's just a little. So I appaud him. Go GACKT!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Power to the herbivore men! I only wish I could meet some "carnivore" women after the concert.

stevecpfc at 08:07 AM JST - 20th March OssanAmerica, yeah some of us are happy being heteresexual and being >tolerant without making child like comments. Maybe that is why insecure >japanese and possibly other me n worldwide need someyhing like this too >boost their self confidence.

It's "heterosexual".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this is too funny!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wish he would do some shows again with malice mizer. But then again those guys are really manly. So, it might back fire on what he's doing.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is it legal to ban women from a club / concert? Will women object?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

right, and he looks very manly.

LoveUSA, many gays work out and don't look herbivorous at all

Moderator: Readers, a discussion of gays is not relevant to this topic.

I just have one question: Who the hell is Gackt?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree with GW.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Who the hell is Gackt"

He's a guitarist who doesn't want any women to attend his concert.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

they'll probably have body cavity searches at the door.

I wonder where all their "girlfriends" will be hanging out, that's where I'll be.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I just have one question: Who the hell is Gackt?

he is a very famous Japanese musician.

How have you not come across him since you moved to Japan?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, he's not on my IPOD.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

“There’s no good in men having a weak spirit, especially for women, so I am going to rally them.”/ “the way of the man,” What in the world is this guy talking about?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This show has to do with Otoko Matsuri which is why he is not allowing any girls to attend. Too many males are weak of spirit nowadays, as you know. What female likes a weak spirited male?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm weak spirited and proud of it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

many gays work out and don't look herbivorous at all

I am talking about the spirit, the character, the mind. I do not like men who think, complain, gossip, lie like women.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I love the part about the "special investigation room", LOL

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is he so popular that women would strive to get into the concert cross dressed?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

FUNKYZEIT☆MIT☆GACKT!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LoveUSA: Isn't that what we're doing right now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cadnium, lipstick is just some colorful stuff you put on your lips. It does not make your punch less hard or your gun aim stray. I am sure even John Wayne wore some.

The male guard thing sounds like a trap. Taking what they believe to be women in the back room to find out? I think there is an ulterior motive there! And yes, women love Gackt! They also love Johnny Depp! Both wear lots of make-up! Live, and learn!

As a musician and performer the guy is a genius not sure how these concerts are going to boost the "manliness" especially since Gackt tended to dress a little strange himself. All I do know is that I'm going to have to watch my cloths and my 15 year old daughter around the time of these concerts to make sure she isn't one of the "women" trying to get in. LOL

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LOL this is great. Gackt is a hasbeen.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We finally get a Japanese male in the Entertainment section of JT, which seems to have an endless supply of Japanese female "talents." In fact, one must scroll through a raft of Japanese female "talents" before finding another Japanese male in this section. Is there a real shortage of males in the Japanese entertainment world, or is JT just awfully picky and choosy or is this just the way Japan is? Maybe this singer Gackt is on to something.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh, okay, I get it. Some people think manliness and macho are one in the same. I disagree. To me manliness is more about principles and a strong spirit or psychological toughness and, very important, pull with the ladies. Some guys are actually too chicken to wear lipstick, and I find that most unmanly. It shows a psychological weakness, never mind how much they can bench press.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's funny coming from GACKT

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is like Johnny Weir telling the other male skaters to be more manly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

" This is like Johnny Weir telling the other male skaters to be more manly. "

LOL, yeah exactly!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would rather have Kenji Sawada then, at least the music is better.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'll admit, they guy's smart, already 36 comments here. He sure knows how to popularise himself.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hasnt he heard of the guys night out? this sounds pretty boring

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I personally prefer the girly men myself. Which I'd always considered Gackt one of.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Perfectly said Pukey2!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

With his cutey boy looks (not to mention Gatsby hair) he will get "gackt" backstage!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

lol, that one made it thru the filter :b

0 ( +0 / -0 )

gackt is great !!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

GACKT! GACKT! GACKT! I just can't stop saying it!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It seems like Gackt has fun keeping everyone guessing as to which way he leans, by the way that he dresses, etc. But he does train in the martial arts, and I would feel comfortable in his presence than a guy who doesn't know a thing about self-defense. Go GACKT!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I do not like men who think, complain, gossip, lie like women.

women think?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's a good idea. Too many Japanese dudes - not all of course - but a lot of the average younger guys you might see on the train or walking about town are exceedingly nerdy and even effeminate. It may just be that Japanese women like their men to be that way these days. For anyone with female Japanese friends, a girlfriend, or wife that might be an interesting question to ask them.

I'm just not sure that Gakct is the right guy to be rallying Japanese men to be more assertive. I know he is in show business but he can start by not wearing makeup or dying his hair. He could also get some Olympic judo champion or famous baseball player to join in the cause and lend him some cred; just a suggestion.

OK, I'm a total Japanophile, Japan with warts and all, and I know you can find the sublime to the rediculous here, but this takes the cake for the rediculous. What affects Japanese men is not going to be fixed up by a pep talk from Gackt. It will be fixed up with politicians and elite get their heads out of their bums a grasp on what is going on in the everyday working (i.e., economic) life of men, and do something to create a tolerable economic and social life here. Their stupid decisions have created an environment tht has left men with no hope.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You may be right but I think young men would listen to Gackt before the politicians.

Personally I think the whole thing is pretty funny. Sure it may be a wild approach but it just might work. And while Gackt may not look very masculine, he's pretty tough, and at least he recognizes there's a problem.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ritalynn, you're right, and I should at least hear what he has to say before I just dismiss him. Thanks for setting me straight.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So this must be a kind of Japanese alpha male bonding concert of sorts. Gackt does seem to have some cult status following among many Japanese otokos.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In my opinion “the way of the man,” is to be with lots and lots of women.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Like JHansen said, this is not the best person to bring "manliness" to this country. Gackt is not exactly a George Thorogood type.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think Gackt is very male. The way of Thorogood is not the only way of the male.

His schtick is a little annoying but I can't see it as 100% ingenuine. To some extent it is him in there, and that puts him head and shoulders above all tarento who are posing tools of their agency. I don't really like the makeup and hair, but better the young guys emulate him than the flakey boy stars from Johnnys.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Just for men - isn't that a hair coloring dye kit targeted towards the aging baby boomers?

LOL!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I would love to sneak into this concert just to see what Gackt is going to do to celebrate 'the way of the man'. His intentions are good but one concert is not going to make some herbivore guy suddenly become carnivorous...unless he is going to be throwing steaks into the crowd!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i can just see his "talk" now.. all shimo-neta!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm with PepinGalarga. While Gackt is busy entertaining the men inside, we'll be entertaining the women who can't get in outside.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm really a Gackt fan, but after seeing him on various tv shows over the years I do think he is a sincere person. Granted this idea of having a concert just for men, might seem a little silly for many of us on the JT, but at least he is doing something a little different.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What the heck, it's at least interesting...and as far as those saying he's not enough of a man, I point to Freddie Mercury... a gay man who no one can say wasn't macho.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wasn't Gackt the one who kicked of the bishounen trend?

At least it's good that he sees the folly of the growing number of effeminate men.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Gackt may look effiminate, but his singing is certainly powerful.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

typo: 'kicked off' was what I meant.

Well, what do you know... Just as I was typing this, there's an ad below for a Men's Cosmetic Concealer Stick.
