I still couldn't get over the fact of his ridiculous hair color he gotten at the end of season 1. They better not let him have that color in season2.

Weirdest show but I couldn't stop watching it.

Two characters who romantically fell on the glass game should be back. Their acting also added the intensity of the drama which was also one of the highlights of the drama.
I think the guy should be back on Season 2 because he was on the top of a woman when they both fell at the same time, so he should be saved.

To be honest I would've been quite satisfied with the show ending with the open-ended conclusion of season 1... but I can't wait for season 2! So many unanswered questions!

This is one of the most original shows I've ever seen

There must have been some kind of meaning, but it went totally over my head ....

But, Squid Game is not so much popular in Japan compared with other Korean hit dramas such as Crash Landing on You or Itaewon Class.
The main reason is the Japanese stereotype of K-dramas and K-pops is that the main characters should look beautiful and the contents should be romantic and fantastic. Squid game is simply too realistic with ordinary-looking Korean actors and actresses. This also explains why Gangnam Style in 2012 was exceptionally unpopular in Japan, generating the conspiracy theory of F5 key. Japanese people and their government tend to hate exposing or watching something too dark and realistic, but instead, love anime and manga of fantasy.
egads man!
You say this when Japan has the director Takashi Miike??
NOMINATION
It's been #1 for weeks for Japan viewership according to my Netflix. Many know about it that haven't even seen it. There are many Youtube videos and games covering Squid Game so the younger generation knows a lot about it more so than the other dramas.
Hiro
@SJ, while Japan live acting aren't that good, the anime and manga on the other hand is where many authors shine by displaying all kind of stories. Many of the great works that won awards depict the dark side of society and many of the nation social problems. You just haven't seen what true art is.
The plot of squid game isn't anything new. There are dozens of manga stories that i have read in my youth where the plot has many similarity. If you think the anime and mange is all about fantasy and being romantic, then clearly you never bother trying to understand the manga culture.

Why can't the Japanese come up with something as new and original like this???
Why Japanese people???

Squid Games is just a repackaged version of The Most Dangerous Game (the book), Battle Royale, and Hunger Games with a big helping of the Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance movies thrown in, especially Oldboy.
Squid Games was fun but it was not original at all.

squid game is a kaiji inspired show. check out kaiji. it's way more complex, got a lot more interesting subplots, way better games, way better in every way. kaiji manga serialization started in 1996 and it's still going strong with more than 80 volumes released. You can also check out it's 26 episode anime adaptation which aired in 2007.

@egads man!
Good question. Yes. I do not deny that there are some Japanese directors exploring the dark side of Japanese society, but they are generally not welcomed by Japanese viewers.
I talk about the popularity. Let me show an example. The most popular TV shows of Japanese Netflix this year: https://flixpatrol.com/top10/netflix/japan/2021/
Tokyo Revengers
Tokyo Revengers
Jujutsu Kaisen
Vincenzo
Crash Landing on You
My Hero Academia

Nevertheless
Squid Game
Attack on Titan
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
KingdomAll are Korean dramas or Japanese animes. No exception.

Refer to the following opinion by a Japanese write: https://diamond.jp/articles/-/287181
(in Japanese).

Hopefully it won't be like Battle Royale 2, which was horrible, sans Riki Takeuchi.
Where do you go?
Most of the main cast is dead.
Zombies?
All new cast?
Nothing but flashbacks?
Prequel?
Or TWIST..........no one actually died......................

False
Netflix has a terrible library of Japanese shows which is why Netflix has been the worst performing streaming service in Japan for many years. in 2020, Netflix was the most HATED brand in Japan.

Pretty much everything is derivative in some way. One could argue that all of these shows and mangas took from a Dangerous Game and Lord of the Flies.
What matters is execution (no pun intended), writing, direction, dialogue, and acting. Squid Game excels in these areas where others didn't do as good a job. Some of them (As God Wills, Alice in Borderland) are YA (Young Adult) are about teenagers and you can't expect much in the acting department compared to older, more experienced actors.

@MilesTeg
As the gods will live action was made in one week. Takashi miike just doesn't work on a film that takes more than a week to make and wow, VIP's acting is squid games sure was damn good. props to the older, much experienced actors ig. Writing and direction, Alice in borderland excelled a lot more than squid games. dialogue, well squid games managed to be a quite dramatic even if the entire plot was sh1t and full of misses so, dialogue writing, squid game is better.

I really don't think this is a good idea... Of course it's tempting to try and squeeze the most out of a success, but sequels are rarely as good as the first installment, and in the case of Squid Game even within s1 the last episode was already somewhat underwhelming compared to the rest...

According to the below site, evaluation of Squid Game is not so high. Some Japanese people say it is a degrade copy version of Japanese comics.

The police officer probably didn't die, he was shot in the shoulder and you don't see his body, and neither did the main character (obviously). The cop's brother will take over the games and our two new heroes will team up to track down this island and surround it. There may or may not be some homages to Enter the Dragon in there.

I really really hope they won't resort to this cliche. It's already been done in Jason Bourne movies twice (& probably many more times elsewhere)
