BIG mistake, his riffs and vocals are irreplaceable. Dumpster-fire tour

Lindsay is a loss. Neil Finn is a HUGE gain!

They could bring back Peter Green and call it the original Fleetwood Mac. But without Green or Buckingham, they are just a cover band really.

Fleetwood Mac is overrated suburban 'soccer mom' yuppie pop. They have some good songs like 'Little Lies' and 'Gypsy' but they ceased to be relevant in 1988 and have been riding on their 'adult contemporary' radio glory days of 40 years ago giving tours with $85+ tickets. Generally their music is just too 'sanitized', too 'lilywhite', too 'Pat Boone' to really warrant all this hype. On Bill Clinton's inauguration day Tipper Gore the loudmouth censorship advocate was shaking her duff to this band so what does that tell you? Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have done better in their solo careers by a long shot. Lindsey doesn't need these guys.   Mike Campbell has done excellent session work with other artists, and Neil Finn is an excellent songwriter of his own merit in Crowded House, Split Enz or on his own. He sure doesn't need these guys either! FM is an overrated money grabbing band that hasn't done anything significant for 30 years and should've thrown in the towel a long time ago.

I hear all the shouts about Peter Greene. Can't deny his influence and the shameful treatment he received.

But... LB is so distinctive in the reinvention of Mac that it is a mistake to fire him.

Those folk just can't get on can they? I guess he has to go his owm way!

Never knew that Neil Finn was involved. Very interesting.

Nothing wrong with ‘suburban ‘soccer mom yuppie pop‘ as long as the songs are good.

Rumours is a cracking album. ‘You make loving fun’ is a brilliant track.

OK but it's such a drag that these critics call it such a 'classic' like it's a Roxy Music or Kraftwerk or Ramones album, those by bands that were revolutionizing rock at the time. People treat FM like they're the Rolling Stones and they ain't. I didn't say that the FM songs are godawful and horrible (like Celine Dion) but radio DJs and critics treat them like they're the Second Coming. It's the overrating that turns me off. 'Tango in the Night' or the 1988 GH was the last time they really mattered. After that it's been Tipper Gore's adoration, riding on past glories and tours with obscene ticket prices. The Eagles set the standard for that and it's criminal. The Stones OTOH have never stopped rolling in the first place and Keith Richards is virtually immune to his chain smoking!

Can't say I completely agree with your musical taste, starpunk, but I do agree these nostalgia tours are kind of sad. That's why I love Robert Plant. He refuses to cash in on the Led Zeppelin glory days, and keeps trying to explore new music. Most famous popular musicians at some point just start parodying themselves.

I would think that they are all rich enough to spend their remaining lives trying something interesting, without regard for whether it's popular or not. At least, that's what a real artist would do.

I agree wholeheartedly. After LZ Plant travelled light-years away from that and he always is toying with some new ideas. His new CD is terrific. He's been experimenting with Arabic music and electronic too. Kind of like what Peter Gabriel does but differently. Robert Plant is an amazing artist just on his own in the first place. One rule he has is - don't stand still. He just keeps on innovating.

Rumours is a pop classic. Still stands up today.

I honestly can’t sit through any Roxy Music album. The early albums have some good tracks interspersed with arty nonsense. The later stuff is mostly radio-friendly pop - like Rumours.

An album or song doesn’t have to be ‘groundbreaking’ to be regarded as a classic. Also, ‘groundbreaking’ doesn’t make something good. Autobahn by Kraftwerk for me is extraordinarily boring but I don’t doubt it’s influence.

I don't hate the Rumors album but US radio treats it like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Of course seeing Miss Censorship Witch Hunt Tipper Gore shake her ass to this on TV kind of turns me off. She is a loudmouth no-nothing who sticks her nose where it ain't wanted and she just needs to shut up. US radio also hypes Boston's first album big time - and it hypes itself up even on the back cover! It too gets hyped as a classic and while I don't hate the songs on it either but it sure gets radio overkill. It's the hype that turns me off.

Some things that are critical darlings like Captain Beefheart and his Trout Mask Replica are utterly unlistenable, and makes me absolutely sick. That's artsy-fartsy nonsense. The band Squeeze has been promoted tremendously by critics - they've called the 2 songwriters the new Lennon and McCartney. Not quite. I've seen them perform, I like them quite nicely but COME ON!

The New York Dolls get heavily hyped too, being punk before its time but I think their live albums are better than the studio stuff. That sounds more punk to me. I DIG Roxy Music big time. All their albums are great and I can tell where many bands I grew up with - say Duran Duran, INXS, U2 and even Def Leppard got their inspiration. The Roxy Music album Avalon is an aphrodisiac, great to play in your car when you're taking your date home. I know. I also saw Bryan Ferry in concert last year and he played his solo and Roxy stuff, and I loved every minute of it!

Autobahn does stretch things a bit on the album, taking up the first side and all (but the single hit version is revolutionary!). Just last night I saw an obvious example of where the influence of Kraftwerk has rubbed off, loud and clear - I saw the Belgian techno band Front 242 perform last night. They were outstanding!
