How does one mistake a live round for a dummy round?

This was to be expected. 18 months (and potentially out in 12 with good behavior) is not that bad, I would have estimated at least 3 years. Fact is, one person died because of others' incompetence - ultimately there is no way to avoid this individual responsibility regardless of working conditions, etc. .

One doesn't take it out of the gun and shake it? Of course, much more reliable is if live rounds don't come with several miles of the dummy rounds.

A key question nobody seems to be asking is, why would live rounds be found on a movie-set for a make-believe shooting? Seems more like someone with malice aforethought and a nefarious purpose was lurking somewhere on the set to cause mischief and mayhem.

Yeah, the person authorizing that also needs to be brought up on charges.

I'm surprised at the length of her sentence... It doesn't seem more negligent than a DUI or the unfortunately common scenario of distracted drivers killing pedestrians and cyclists. A car can be just as dangerous as a loaded gun.

Agree. It was her job, and her job alone, to make sure it was safe. She is the gun expert, not Baldwin. That’s why she was hired.

If Baldwin has authority then he is responsible if he knew the staff were using live rounds on location.

He should have disallowed presence and use of live bullets on the workplace.

Baldwin hired the inexperienced armorer to save money. Baldwin was the one in ultimate control of the set. He allowed consciously or by omitting of proper oversight live rounds on set.

He was the one that was so cheap and the set considered so unsafe that several crew members considered quitting.

This is gross negligence and I believes it amounts to criminal liability.

I don't see where it says Baldwin hired her. Or did he hire someone that hired someone else that hired her?

Not sure if that makes him responsible. Would think the fact that he fired the gun would be the bigger issue.

She is a convicted felon now. That will ruin her life and she will never work with firearms again. She will have difficulty getting any normal job for the rest of her life. She will likely find a boyfriend, get married and become a stay at home mom. Nothing wrong with that, but it probably wasn't her life plan.

Baldwin definitely used poor judgement and likely set an improper tone for safe use of firearms all over the set. He probably either ignored or used pressure of his position to have lax safety on the project.

Target practice during lunch? Really? If the firearms are her responsibility, then she should have had them locked up and only used under her direct supervision. It is easy to say that now. Nobody here was there at the time.
